The Swiss Luxury Watch Manufacturer unveils a new edition of its classic TAG Heuer Monaco produced with the partner Gulf just in time for Watches & Wonders 2022. The co-creation features the Gulf brand’s iconic colours and style, as well as the Heuer 02 in-house movement, which is a first for the Monaco Gulf edition. The new TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf is a Special Edition timepiece that has been eagerly awaited by watch collectors.
The tale of the Monaco Gulf begins with a passion for top-tier motorsport. Thanks to its signature livery of bold blue and vivid orange that decorated the teams that it sponsored, the Gulf brand became renowned in the world of racing. JW Automotive Engineering, a name that has left an indelible stamp on the history of endurance racing, was their principal partner during the golden era of racing, which spanned the 1960s and 1970s.
TAG Heuer chose to develop a Monaco edition in the Gulf colours in 2007, in recognition of this defining association, and each timepiece from this particular collection has been a huge success and highly valuable since then.
And now, TAG Heuer has come up with an even more spectacular version of the Monaco Gulf Edition for the 2022 edition. The TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Special Edition is a great eye-catcher, with a refined design and the in-house Heuer 02 movement placed in the superb brushed and polished steel casing.
A Focus On Aesthetics
Of course, the design is still based on Gulf’s three distinctive hues, but this time in more modern colour combinations: a unique dark blue, turquoise, and orange. This new TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf edition becomes even more unique with these new elements and a tiny twist, and includes more polished Gulf accents.
The sleek Gulf accents are blended with the sophisticated style of the Monaco on the watch’s face. The Gulf accents have been elegantly incorporated, and the three colours are also present on the minute sub-counters at 3 o’clock for the first time. The Gulf emblem on the dial is completely white, which is also a first in the Monaco Gulf watch editions.
The opaline sunray brushed dial adds a fascinating aesthetic contradiction to the watch, enhancing its elegance. Finally, as a tribute to the race number on the Porsche Gulf racing cars, the 12 o’clock index is replaced by the number “60” – polished and rhodium plated.
The strap is constructed of perforated blue calfskin leather with an orange lining, completing the watch’s sporty but classy style. The strap has the usual perforation developed especially for the Monaco Gulf editions, but the holes are now varied sizes, a reflection of the design initially fitted to Monaco models in the 1970s, giving this Special Edition timepiece a touch of the past.
The TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Special Edition watch comes with a new packaging featuring a box and a special travel pouch, also using the refreshed Gulf colours. The TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Special Edition will be available starting from May 2022 and sold worldwide in the TAG Heuer boutiques and on the e-commerce website of the brand.
