A woman may be dressed in jeans and stilettos, with a trench coat thrown on as she rushes out of the office. For an evening at the opera, she’ll have slipped her pumps into her handbag. But not without a fiery timepiece to adorn her wrists! Chopard has a close connection with feminine watches and their Happy Sport Chrono & Happy Sport timepieces are here to be an icon!
On a woman’s mind: 90s fashion heroes, the era that gave birth to her cult watch, a symbol of a dazzling, multidimensional epoch… Caroline Bessette Kennedy, Kate Moss, and Lucy Liu are all members of her iconographic hall of fame, luminaries who collaborated with Caroline Scheufele on some of the most memorable moments in sport-chic fashion. Is that their signature? Nonchalance and style. A disregard for the rules of the game. Anything was feasible in the period of mix and match, minimalism, and pharaonic luxury, as long as there was a true style signature. Chopard created a signature in 1993 by adding meaning to an era through a timepiece with a revolutionary spirit allowing diamonds to dance across its dial.
This bold effort, a first in the regimented world of watchmaking, was to become a must-have that changed history. Admired, envious, and unrivalled The Happy Sport has become an emblem on the wrists of style-conscious ladies.
An ethical gold creation…
Gold is more than a precious commodity; it represents the enduring dedication of a family-run Maison that has been passed down from generation to generation. Chopard has been a leader in sustainable luxury since pledging to utilising only ethical gold in the creation of its watches and jewellery since 2018. This new Happy Sport model showcases ethical 18-carat rose gold’s radiant luminosity with a total-look interpretation in which gold reigns supreme, from case to sunray satin-brushed bracelet and dial to hands. In this magnificent theatre, the actors are set to begin the performance: make way for the dancing gems!
Dancing diamonds for a talisman watch
On the dial, five dancing diamonds whirl and twirl, extending the happy movements of the woman wearing the Happy Sport on her wrist. Endless movement and a live show that lingers in light, beauty, and freedom. Five diamonds, like a promise of endless happiness, a pleasant omen, a sign of equilibrium.
The Happy Sport’s faultless proportions are inspired by the golden ratio laws and regulated by the size of the Chopard 09.01-C movement with which the collection is equipped. Absolute, unmistakable perfection, creating a golden stage for an ever-changing spectrum of emotions. As a lucky charm, add the motto “Be joyful” to the mix!
Happy Sport Chrono
The Happy Sport, a critically praised feminine watchmaking icon that has been translated in a variety of bold styles since its inception, has been reimagined in a new chronograph edition. This daring 40 mm-diameter watch has all it takes to appeal. It’s sporty by nature and ethical in essence. Seven dancing diamonds round a beautiful gold dial, which is framed by an ethical 18-carat rose gold casing. The Happy Sport Chrono is driven by a chronograph movement with a 54-hour power reserve and COSC-certified chronometer perfection. It’s finished off with a midnight blue leather strap that adds to the stylish yet laid-back vibe.
A complication at the heart of the design
The chronograph is a sophisticated and sporty complication that fits it perfectly with the Happy Sport brand. It first appeared in the Happy Sport Chrono collection in 1996 and now characterises the design of the current Happy Sport Chrono model. Two distinctive pushers have been added to the right-hand side of the ethical 18-carat rose gold case, without detracting from the roundness and balance of the collection’s signature design.
The hours and minutes counters required for the timekeeping operations are also seamlessly incorporated on the gold dial with a satin-finish sunburst and guilloché centre, with blue transfers assuring optimal legibility of the information. The Super-LumiNova® coating on the hour-markers and hands, which ensures that the time can be read in the dark, is the same. The use of gold is a reminder of Chopard’s dedication to sustainability, as the company has been using 100 percent ethical gold in the production of its watches and jewellery since July 2018.
A precision chronograph movement, certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute, is at the core of the timepiece. Its self-winding mechanism has a 54-hour power reserve, long enough for the watch to keep perfect time after a long weekend away.
The matt midnight blue leather strap with tone-on-tone stitching complements the blue dial transfers and makes the watch extremely comfortable to wear while emphasising the Happy Sport women’s casual style.
The Happy Sport watch puts on an enthralling and never-ending spectacle. One in which women take centre stage, as it is their own actions that give life to the dancing diamonds and this ever-changing tableau. The collection vividly reflects this vibrant life force and has lent itself to countless transformations since its debut. A powerful metaphor of the emancipatory momentum women experienced in the twentieth century, the collection vividly reflects this vibrant life force and has lent itself to countless transformations since its debut.
