Laurent Ferrier, is not just another independent brand, but an extremely desirable one for collectors. Horological art, clean and simple lines and original ideas, every Laurent Ferrier has a very unique aura that focuses on the one thing that does matter – the craftsmanship. Infact a Laurent Ferrier on your wrist speaks volumes of your and your journey as a collector.
This year at Watches & Wonders 2022, Laurent Ferrier has introduced a new Classic Origin, an intense blue edition. After the Classic Micro-Rotor, the Classic Traveller, the Square Micro-Rotor, the École Annual Calendar, the Grand Sport Tourbillon and the recent Sport Auto, it seemed self-evident to adorn the Classic Origin with a deep blue dial.
With its assegai hands, drop-shaped indices, and elegant powdery-grey hour track, as well as the case’s perfect combination of straight and curved lines and ofcourse the exceptional finishes on the movement, this piece truly represents the quintessence of the brand. After the previous Classic Origin Opaline and Classic Origin Green, this new, stronger shade of blue is a breath of fresh air for the entire Laurent Ferrier collection.
The powdery-grey hour track you see here is punctuated by sky-blue numerals across a gradient blue dial that transitions from a lighter shade in the centre to deepest blue around the periphery. The composition is finished off with a powdery-grey centre cross and four of the brand’s iconic drop-shaped indices. A snailed seconds counter at 6 o’clock features subtle sky-blue markers. Sweeping over the dial are LF’s famous Assegai-shaped hour and minute hands, in 18-carat white gold.
This 40mm intense blue dial sits within a Grade 5 titanium case that features the same harmonious contours as the very first Laurent Ferrier – the Classic Tourbillon.
It also features the same 19th-century pocket watch inspired ball-shaped crown with those original proportions and plump shape making the winding experience an absolute pleasure.
Visible through the sapphire case back, is the rather minimalist Calibre LF116.01 that incorporates a screw balance and the Breguet-type overcoil balance-spring. This combination enhances precision and mitigates positional timekeeping errors while improving isochronism. The brand’s famous polished and hand-crafted long-blade ratchet system that makes an inimitable sound during winding, characteristic of the most demanding watches is one of key highlights of Calibre. When the Classic Origin Blue is perfectly wound, it can operate independently for 80 hours thanks to its excellent power reserve.
To the DNA of the marque, Calibre LF116.01 has the same high-end finishes as every other Laurent Ferrier creation. The bridges are microbeaded, with black rhodium finish and entirely hand-polished edges. Each screw-head is mirror polished and the escapement bridge is adorned with a hand-made interior angle, reflecting the workshop’s meticulous attention to detail.
Fitted with a midnight blue Nubuck strap with tone-on-tone Alcantara lining, the Classic Origin Blue is the latest interpretation of Laurent Ferrier’s timeless watch design.
Of all the case sizes and designs Laurent Ferrier has to offer, the classic round is one that many watch aficionados still associate the brand with. Think about it, it is eventually a classic round case and minimal drama, yet commands so much respect and attention.
