While we love talking about escapements and complications, one can’t take away from the fact that this Japanese “cult” brand has created quite a niche for itself amongst fashion-forward millennials. Originally introduced in 1983, Casio G-SHOCK has earned the Guinness World Records title for the heaviest vehicle to drive over a watch putting the DW5600E-1 model to the test under the weight of a 24.97-ton truck.

To achieve such a feat and break the record, the timepiece had to function properly after being run over by a minimum of 20 metric ton truck. The DW5600E-1 is the only watch to successfully withstand the challenge, and this is the first time Casio G-SHOCK has ever held a Guinness World Records title. The iconic square case model was selected for this challenge represents the origin of the G-SHOCK brand, and now represents the brand’s ethos of “Absolute Toughness” like never before.

Kickstarting 2021 on an extremely vibrant and radiant note Casio G-SHOCK has introduced a fiery new version of the full metal 5000.

Featuring the popular stainless steel GMW-B5000RD-4JF, this full metal model sports a reflective red hue which was achieved by using an ion-playing Bordeaux IP finish applied uniformly on the case and linked bracelet. Now on the basis of the photos, the color seems to be a deep Bordeaux but depending on the angle, reflects different hues of red from the polished and brushed finishes respectively.

Aesthetics aside, this fiery new GMW-B5000RD-4JF is shock resistant, features a multi-functional alarm, an illuminating backlight and solar charging for its 10-hour battery life. And if that’s not enough, it also boasts of Bluetooth connectivity to smartphones, a feat most millennials can’t seem to do without.

This new fiery red “cult” watch will be available sometime in January on G-SHOCK’s Japanese website and is priced at approximately US$ 680. While you wait on that, do you want to look out to pair some kicks with the same?
