In a first-of-its-kind partnership, French fashion house Louis Vuitton has collaborated with independent watchmaker Akrivia to create the revolutionary LVRR-01 Chronographe à Sonnerie. This unique timepiece combines the heritage and innovation of two iconic brands to produce a watch that is truly greater than the sum of its parts.
The LVRR-01 is a meticulous meditation on time’s essence: a precision chronometer with a tourbillon regulator displaying the current time, while also measuring elapsed intervals with its chronograph functions. For the first time in watchmaking, it marks time’s passage with a sonnerie mechanism that chimes each minute. The pusher at two o’clock controls the chronograph’s start, stop and reset. Every passing minute triggers the sonnerie’s melodic chime, produced by a black-polished steel hammer striking a tempered steel gong crafted by Atelier Akrivia.
These complications shine within an ingenious two-sided platinum case, symbolizing the collaborative spirit behind the LVRR-01. The contemporary frosted sapphire crystal dial pairs with a traditional white grand feu enamel face, elegantly juxtaposing Louis Vuitton’s modernity with Rexhep Rexhepi’s classicism.
The case seamlessly integrates Louis Vuitton’s signature Tambour shape with Rexhep Rexhepi’s technical artistry and slender classicism. Its drum form translates into a streamlined case with a steep bezel and curved lugs recalling mid-century gentlemen’s watches. Atelier Akrivia produces each case, overseen by Jean-Pierre Hagmann, their master case maker. His subtle “JHP” hallmark on the lower right lug certifies the quality.
The two dials distinctively blend the Maisons’ aesthetics while cohesively uniting as one. The contemporary front dial mirrors Louis Vuitton’s modern ethos with its frosted sapphire crystal and gilt-metalized minute track reminiscent of the Rexhep Rexhepi Chronomètre Contemporain. Six gold cubes filled with translucent plique-à-jour enamel evoke stained glass. In contrast, the reverse’s glossy white grand feu enamel recalls 19th-century chronograph pocket watches. Designed by Rexhep Rexhepi, it features twin printed enamel scales displaying the hours and minutes, honoring traditional timepieces.
This historic collaboration marks the first time Rexhep Rexhepi has partnered with another watchmaker since its founding in 2012.
