An ultimate ode to the original Radiomir and its lasting legacy in shaping modern Panerai interpretations, the new Radiomir Otto Giorni references unveiled at Watches And Wonders 2023, feature strong vintage aesthetic appearance that expounds on its retro spirit. Its distinctively vintage aesthetic is based on that of the original Radiomir prototype, a 47mm in diameter model created in 1935. Panerai's new finishing process gives each watch its own distinct personality.

Excellent readability in the often muddy waters near military ports inspired the revolutionary new dimensions of the 1935 model. Its robustness, water resistance, and ease of reading sealed it as the sought-after instrument across different military units for various missions. Panerai's iconic sandwich dial was developed to increase the legibility and luminosity of the watch's hour markers and numerals in order to meet the military's stringent requirements.

The new Radiomir Otto Giorni builds on this legacy, making it more appealing to collectors who value historic accuracy. The cases of all Radiomir Otto Giorni eSteelTM watches are individually hand-finished to give them a weathered appearance and distinct personality. Elements of the original Radiomir designed for the Royal Italian Navy, including its cushion-shaped case, slim wire lugs, and signature sandwich dial, are combined with the intentionally weathered effect of the PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition)-created eSteelTM case. With an open case back and a domed sapphire glass crystal that calls to mind the days of Plexiglass® crystals, this timepiece features a Super-LumiNova® dial with a small seconds display at 9 o'clock. The Radiomir collection is easily identifiable by its distinctive cone-shaped crown, which can be found on this watch as well.

PAM01347 has a dark brown dial with a grainy appearance, and PAM01348 showcases a blue dial. The grainy appearance is achieved by the dials' gradual transition from a bright centre to a darker gradient at the dial's edges. The grainy dials of the Radiomir Otto Giorni are a nod to the way vintage Radiomir watches changed colour and appearance over time thanks to the anodization process of some vintage aluminium dials.

The soft calf leather strap, which matches the dial's color, has a pebbled texture and contrast stitching so that it ages gracefully. The hand-wound P.5000 calibre powers the Radiomir Otto Giorni and features an eight-day power reserve, a long power reserve used historically by Panerai. The sapphire crystal case back reveals the famous 8-day movement.

Panerai's long power reserve is an integral part of the brand's identity and DNA; it allowed the watches to be relied on by Italian Navy underwater commandos despite being subjected to extreme conditions. The Egiziano model is a throwback to Panerai's first watches from 1956 when the term 8 giorni brevettato was first used in a graphic inscription on the dial. The two Radiomir Otto Giorni references are available exclusively in Panerai boutiques.
