Bringing new shapes, novel textures, and unique hues to the gem set wonders of the watch world, TAG Heuer has unveiled its latest chapter of the breakthrough Diamant d’Avant-Garde technology with the launch of the first colored TAG Heuer Carrera Plasma 36 mm at Watches and Wonders 2023.
Marking the inception of the latest innovation in the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) technique for giving birth to lab-grown diamonds, TAG Heuer has been able to achieve amazing colors for the stones which can be cherished in beguiling bright pink hues on the latest timepiece.
The First Colored Lab-Grown Diamonds In A TAG Heuer Watch
The TAG Heuer Carrera Plasma collection embodies the future-forward approach driving Maison’s advancements in high-horology. It blends the revolutionary Diamant d’Avant-garde technology with a unique and unconventional aesthetic. The TAG Heuer Carrera Plasma 36 mm goes beyond the norm and pushes the boundaries of traditional horological design.
The latest watch release highlights a blend of white and pink lab-grown diamonds, with plans to utilize colored lab-grown diamonds more extensively in upcoming high-end watch models even predicted to be available in a rainbow spectrum in the future. This unveiling follows the presentation of the TAG Heuer Carrera Plasma Diamant d’Avant-Garde “2.0”, which integrates lab-grown diamonds in unique and artistic shapes on the aluminum bezel and bracelet. The latest timepiece features 1.4 carats of colored Diamant d’Avant-Garde.
This innovation marks the continuation of the remarkable TAG Heuer journey, as its 163-year history merges with innovative, cutting-edge advancements.
Reinstating The Lost Allure For Gem Setting On Watches With An Innovation Packed Timepiece
As expressed beautifully by Frédéric Arnault at the watch’s launch at Watches and Wonders “With the new TAG Heuer Carrera Plasma Diamant d’Avant-Garde, we intend to expand the new high-end innovative segment with this first colored lab-grown diamond piece. We are proud at TAG Heuer, that we are yet again able to introduce a true innovation with colored Diamant d’Avant-Garde to be used on luxury timepieces.”
Supplementing Frédéric Arnault’s remarks, the Director of the TAG Heuer Institute Emmanuel Dupas says, “A diamond, be it natural or lab-grown, consists of a regular arrangement of carbon atoms. A perfect diamond, color D and flawless, has almost no defect in this arrangement and is completely colorless. In order to obtain a colored diamond, one needs to introduce some disorder into this perfect arrangement, in a controlled way. This disorder can be due to the addition of atoms of different elements or to the presence of defects: for example, missing carbon atoms. The CVD process offers the opportunity to introduce these defects during the growth process, in a well-controlled environment, without the need for any post-processing. This way, the diamond is colored all the way through and homogeneously. Very specific know-how – such as it is owned by one of our partners ‘Proud’ – is required to control this process and to be able to reproduce the same color, batch after batch.”
A Stand-Out Timepiece Serving A Blend Of Avant-Garde Design And Mechanical Perfection
The newly introduced TAG Heuer Plasma Diamant d’Avant-Garde timepiece is now available in white gold with a 36mm case, representing the newly refined and revisited model of the TAG Heuer Carrera Date launched at Watches and Wonders 2023. The flange, located beneath the crystal, is now azured, adding to the watch’s unique look. The watch’s crown diamond is a singular 1.3-carat pink lab-grown diamond, which complements the newly designed Diamant d’Avant-Garde shield on the polycrystalline dial, creating breathtaking reflections and light effects through the use of CVD technology.
The 2.9-carat dial design features 12 white gold indexes set with white lab-grown diamonds, and the hours and minutes hands are “skeletonized”. Above them, a special shield-shaped pink diamond sits just below the signature Carrera dial logo. This one-of-a-kind, three-handed timepiece weighs a total of 4.8 carats and comes paired with a black alligator strap with a white gold pin buckle.
