The slimmer the better? It's not really about being slim or fat but more about being fit and healthy and today’s RM-UP 1 in collaboration with Ferrari sets that record straight. It’s not that we haven’t seen slim watches in the past, be it the Concord Delirium, the Zenith Captain Ultra thin, the Piaget Altiplano or the most recent record setting (until now) Bvlgari Octo Finissimo. Unlike its peers, Richard Mille has dropped the world's slimmest watch with the entire movement assembled in the case instead of doubling the caseback as a baseplate. So yes, not just another “slim” watch!
Breaking the norm hands down, it’s interesting how a label known for their chunky creations is veering into the record-breaking world of gaunt horology beating the record-breaking Octo Finissimo by 0.05mm.
Being currently called the thinnest watch in the world, the RM-UP 01 Ferrari launched less than 24 hours ago and the world is already in a tizzy.
Richard Mille is not for the faint-hearted, the epochal label is known to push limits, dream the insane and execute the extraordinary. With a roster of creations that are seen on every relevant wrist in the world, they are breaking barriers once again. The latest RM-UP 01 Ferrari embodies the house’s unmissable design ethos with a world record to match.
A watch that will definitely be identified from miles apart, the 1.75mm thick (or should I say thin) case is made in grade 5 titanium making it lighter than ever before. Sharing its name with Ferrari’s namesake vehicle, the robust RM-UP 1 houses a movement that is slenderized to 1.18mm and assembled on the case itself as opposed to a baseplate. Packed with a function selector, hours, minutes and seconds, the movement does not compromise on mechanics at all, on the contrary it is emblazoned with Ferrari’s iconic horse and wheel.
Weighing only 2.82 grams, the watch is capable of withstanding accelations of more than 5000 Gs and has a power reserve of 45 hours. Let’s just say we hope to see it on Carlos Sainz on the F1 track soon! Given the high performance led tech of the watch and his association with both the brands, and the fact that he won last weekend, it would be a match made in heaven.
