In 2025, ANDERSEN Genève celebrates two monumental anniversaries- the 45th year since its founding in 1980, and 35 years since its first groundbreaking worldtimer with the launch of the Communication 45. This exquisite limited edition series, comprising just 45 pieces split into three regional sets of 15, pays tribute to founder Svend Andersen’s pioneering spirit and enduring influence on independent watchmaking. Drawing inspiration from the brand’s original 1990 Communication worldtimer, the new Communication 45 is both a nod to the past and a meticulous evolution of the maison’s worldtime mastery.

Each edition Europe, Asia, and the Americas features a 21ct BlueGold dial in a rich Cognac hue, delicately engraved with the brand’s signature wave-form tapisserie-guilloché and accented with inlaid yellow gold landmasses. The colour and texture are the result of intricate kiln firing and a custom-developed etching and infilling process, turning each dial into a miniature work of art. The classical worldtimer layout—complete with a 24-hour rotating ring and a lacquered city disc—remains, but is refined through a bespoke font and beautifully skeletonised yellow gold hands. All of this is housed in a 38mm case of 3N yellow gold, entirely hand-made in La Chaux-de-Fonds by master case-maker Marco Poluzzi, 83, whose decades of experience contribute to the case’s flawless form and mirror finish.

A modern reinterpretation of the original Communication

The case is not only a product of traditional craftsmanship, but also a symbol of continuity. Its sculptural teardrop lugs offer a modern reinterpretation of those created by the late Jean-Pierre Hagmann for the original Communication. Each watch is individually numbered and fitted with two crowns—one at 9 o’clock for selecting the city ring, engraved with a “C45 Anniversary” logo, and one at 3 o’clock for winding and setting, capped with the brand’s signature “A” logo.

Communication 45: 2025 and 1990

The Communication 45 is powered by a slim vintage automatic calibre—sourced for its reliability and dimensions—paired with ANDERSEN Genève’s ultra-thin worldtime module. Originally developed by Svend Andersen in the late 1980s at the request of Italian collectors, this 0.9mm module remains a cornerstone of the brand’s horological identity. The movement is completely disassembled and hand-finished in-house with frosted bridges, polished bevels, mirror-polished screws, and meticulous wheel detailing. The rotor echoes the dial’s Cognac BlueGold and tapisserie engraving, while a discreetly placed heat-blued screw under the balance bridge forms the “A” logo—an inside tribute to those who truly know the brand.

Caseback

Beyond mechanics, the Communication 45 is a study in decorative finesse. The dial’s guilloché pattern, sourced from a 19th-century template discovered by Svend Andersen himself, is engraved using a traditional tapisserie machine—preserving a historic craft rarely seen today. The map inlay process, developed uniquely for this watch, involved months of experimentation with three Swiss suppliers, ensuring each gold-infilled continent lies recessed yet perfectly polished within the BlueGold dial’s textured sea.

The Communication 45 is more than a commemorative piece—it’s a culmination of ANDERSEN Genève’s devotion to artistic expression, mechanical ingenuity, and traditional Swiss craftsmanship. From the workshop floors in Geneva to La Chaux-de-Fonds, and from Svend Andersen’s legacy to the new generation of artisans, this worldtimer captures the essence of a brand that doesn’t just measure time, it celebrates it.
