Another trip, another watch dilemma. Like clockwork, whenever I pack for a journey — whether a quick work trip, a holiday, or just a weekend away — I find myself staring at my watch box and asking: which one can really go anywhere and do anything?

Most of you are already familiar with the concept of a GADA watch — short for Go Anywhere, Do Anything. But what that really means is deeply personal. For some, it’s a steel sports watch with bulletproof specs. For others, it’s something slimmer and more understated. In my case, it’s about finding a balance: a watch that doesn’t demand attention yet earns it, a watch that transitions seamlessly between a meeting room, a dinner table, and an early morning flight. And coming from the industry I do, the one question I always get asked is “what you wearing today?”

What is a GADA watch ?

A GADA watch is a fascinating concept — and a practical one. It isn’t confined to a single style or category; rather, it represents remarkable versatility. It’s the kind of watch that effortlessly adapts to different occasions and settings, making it far more useful — and, in my opinion, much more interesting — than a watch designed for only one purpose.

It’s tempting to assume that any rugged, waterproof watch fits the bill. But that, to me, misses the essence of a GADA. It isn’t merely about durability; it’s about versatility, wearability, and charm.

Here are the qualities I consider essential:

  • Design that adapts — Whether formal or casual, traditional or modern, it should complement whatever you’re wearing without looking out of place.
  • Comfort on the wrist — Slim and ergonomic enough to forget you’re wearing it, yet substantial enough to feel like a companion.
  • Discreet confidence — Understated enough to fly under the radar, but with just enough personality to intrigue those who notice.
  • Practicality while traveling — You shouldn’t feel anxious about wearing it through a crowded market or while navigating an airport.
  • Timeless character — A design that rises above trends and feels relevant and refined no matter when — or where — you wear it.

My current GADA shortlist

So here it is — my personal picks of watches that nail the GADA brief, the first half of 2025!

Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36mm

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual, especially in its new beige dial variant launched this year, perfectly encapsulates what a GADA watch should be. At its core, the OP is a study in timeless versatility — understated yet undeniably refined, robust yet comfortable. The soft warmth of the beige dial brings a fresh, contemporary charm that sets it apart from the usual black or silver, while remaining neutral enough to suit almost any setting. Its clean proportions, excellent water resistance, and reliable movement mean it’s equally at home in a boardroom, at dinner, or while exploring a new city. It pairs beautifully not just with suits and casual wear, but also with more feminine silhouettes — dresses, sarees, or chic evening ensembles — making it a discreet yet confident companion for any occasion. With a subtly reworked case and a sleeker clasp, the Oyster Perpetual 36 exudes a more refined presence on the wrist. Because it avoids the ostentation of other Rolex models, it remains practical and low-key enough to travel with comfortably, while still carrying the unmistakable quality and heritage of the brand.

Cartier Santos Mini

I like to call it my Baby Santos — not just because of its proportions, but because it feels so easy and approachable, almost like a trusted little companion on my wrist. There’s a certain comfort to wearing it; it never feels overbearing, yet it carries so much presence and history. The warm yellow gold gives it just the right amount of personality, while the silver sunray dial, blued hands, and sapphire crown remind you that it’s unmistakably Cartier. What I appreciate most is how effortlessly it adapts — the bracelet feels elegant and confident during the day, and when I swap it for the dark blue alligator strap, it takes on a more relaxed, intimate charm for the evening. The Baby Santos is timeless, versatile, and quietly luxurious — everything I want in a GADA watch. And really, if it’s a Cartier, why not?

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso

At first glance, the Reverso might seem too formal to qualify as a true GADA watch. But its slim profile, understated elegance, and rich heritage make it an exceptional choice — especially for someone who prefers a more refined, dressier style. Personally, I gravitate toward the mono-face versions; they’re simple, clean, and yet unmistakably Jaeger-LeCoultre — a watch that speaks volumes without raising its voice. I love how sleek and discreet it feels on the wrist, and to make it truly my own, I wear it on an aftermarket strap that adds a subtle, personal twist to this classic. Its quiet presence, timeless design, and ability to adapt effortlessly to different settings make it a surprisingly versatile companion — and one of my favorite GADA picks.

Tudor BlackBay Chrono (Pink Dial)

This one might come as a surprise to many, but let me tell you why I think it’s a great GADA watch. For me, it’s all about how easy it is to carry — and how it makes a statement without trying too hard. What really struck me when I first saw it was the shade of pink. I expected something overly bright or playful, but instead, it’s this beautifully balanced pink — bold, yes, but not loud, not the kind of bubblegum or Barbie pink you’d expect. That makes it much more versatile than you’d imagine. I find that it doesn’t always have to “fit” my wardrobe; in fact, that’s what I love about it — sometimes it’s good to stand out. Some days you want your watch to quietly complement what you’re wearing, and other days you want it to lead the conversation. For me, this Tudor does exactly that. It’s reliable, distinctive, and full of personality — and that’s why it’s one of my go-to GADA watches.

Baume & Mercier Riviera

The Baume & Mercier Riviera M0A10829 has earned its spot as one of my GADA watches mainly because of its versatility. It’s the kind of watch that just works — anywhere, with anything. I love the brand’s heritage and the clean, distinctive lines of the Riviera case, it feels refined yet approachable. The 42mm stainless steel case has enough presence to stand out but never feels over the top, and the snow-white dial paired with the bold black outer flange is simply timeless. You really can’t go wrong with black and white — it’s classic, easy to pair, and always looks sharp. And here’s the thing I particularly appreciate: it’s priced sensibly enough that I don’t feel nervous traveling with it. There’s no fear of attracting the wrong kind of attention, yet it still manages to spark conversations thanks to its striking design and uncommon charm. To me, that combination of heritage, versatility, and quiet confidence makes it an ideal GADA watch.

Of course, many more watches could easily make this list — the Tissot PRC, the Grand Seiko Snowflake, the Omega Seamaster, and so on. That’s the beauty of the GADA category: it’s as personal as it is practical. What feels versatile and effortless to me might not resonate the same way for someone else, and that’s perfectly fine. For now, though, these are my picks for the first half of 2025 — watches that, in their own ways, embody what a Go Anywhere, Do Anything watch should be: versatile, dependable, and full of character.
