FEATURING: PANERAI - Submersible GoldtechTM Orocarbo – 44mm

When one talks about innovative materials and high-tech technology, a brand that surely deserves recognition is Panerai. Be it the BMG-tech, Carbotech, Fibratech, Panerai relentlessly continues it’s pursuit of novel applications for materials. Known for it’s extensive collection of diving tools, this year Panerai introduced an unusual combination to the Submersible family:  a professional diving watch with experimental aesthetics, the 44mm Submersible Goldtech OROCARBO.

This rare combination of GoldtechTM and CarbotechTM certainly defies the conventional diving instruments that Panerai offers. The question here being, do you really need a gold watch whilst diving? Well, maybe not but the Submersible Goldtech OROCARBO is more than just another gold watch. It is a divers watch that exudes a bold yet elegant character.

The case of the Submersible Goldtech OROCARBO is made from Panerai GoldtechTM, a gold alloy with an intense and stable color made possible by its significant copper content and enrichment with platinum. Further accentuating the attitude of this Submersible, the dial here features applied indexes and satiné soleil decoration, an unconventional embellishment in the Submersible collection.

To break the monotony of the gold here and to add that extra oomph to the Submersible Goldtech OROCARBO, giving substance to the functional components such as the bezel, crown and crown bridge lever is a composite that consists of overlapping carbon fiber sheets with alternating orientations (seven per mm), aggregated using controlled temperature and high pressure and fused with a late-generation polymer binder : CarbotechTM.

Like all the Panerai Subs, the Submersible GoldtechTM OROCARBO is tailored to the specific requirements of divers and conceived to realise its full potential in harsh & extreme conditions. Featuring a unidirectional rotating bezel and screwed caseback this diving tool would surely withstand underwater pressure upto 300 meters deep. Needless to say, the luminescent indexes, hands and dots in green/blue are immediately legible underwater. 

Ticking inside the Submersible Goldtech OROCARBO is the brands next-generation movement, designed and developed entirely by Panerai, the P.900 Caliber.

The new Submersible Goldtech - 44 mm comes with a black rubber strap and a trapezoidal pin buckle in titanium with black DLC coating. An additional strap composed of Panerai Sportech in black with ecru stitching also accompanies the watch, along with a screwdriver for removing the buckle and a box made from recycled plastic. 

My thoughts? I love it! Starting will the size on this beauty, everything just works in complete harmony here. Although it is a 44mm diving tool that combines a date indication and three-day power reserve, the thickness is merely 4.2mm. So yes, it is a relatively large Sub, but surely doesn’t feel that large on my wrist. In my opinion, although the Submersible Goldtech OROCARBO brims with luxury, it still upholds Panerai’s historical aesthetic codes of authentic diving instruments & tool watches.
