Lucknow Vegetable Vendor's Novel World Clock Gifted to Ram Mandir Trust
Anil Kumar Sahu, a 52-year-old vegetable vendor from Lucknow, has gifted an innovative world clock designed by him to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust ahead of the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Sahu spent the month of October 2022 designing and building this novel 75cm diameter clock that simultaneously displays the current time in eight different countries - India, United Arab Emirates, Japan, Russia, China, Singapore, Mexico, and the United States of America. He gifted the specially designed clock to Champat Rai, the general secretary of the Trust, as a gesture of goodwill.
This is not the first time Sahu has created such world clocks. Earlier, he had made similar clocks for the Khatu Shyam temple in Lucknow and temples in Barabanki district. The innovative timepiece installed at his vegetable stall in Lucknow has now become a center of attraction in the local marketplace, garnering curiosity from customers.
The Patent Office of India had granted Sahu a 'certificate of registration of design' for the world clock back in 2018. At the time, his clock displayed the timings of India, China, Dubai, Moscow and Tokyo. Sahu was inspired to design such a clock during a discussion about time zones with his Omani landlord.
In the future, Sahu plans to design clocks displaying the timings of 25 countries. He also wishes to gift such novel clocks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Though Sahu wants to commercially manufacture the world clocks on a larger scale, a lack of funds is currently preventing him from doing so. Each 75cm clock costs approximately Rs. 3000 to build manually and takes about 1.5 hours to assemble. With proper funding, Sahu aims to take his innovative product to a wider market.
