Metaxas & Sins BV Introduce The Ethereal Electrostatic Headphone Tourbillon L’EPee Clock
Imagine a true ultra-high-end system using the best headphones ever created—electrostatic headphones—that compete with expensive physical hi-fi systems at a fraction of the price and are also coveted objects of art. Introducing The "Ethereal System"!
We’ve seen artists take inspiration from the world of horology and here we have another one! Artist/engineer Kostas Metaxas is no stranger to inventing things that have never existed before; he also succeeded in marrying a Swiss Tourbillon [LePee] clock and offering it as a lovely abstract moulage mannequin.
Kostas' "Geometrika" design, which produces a visual patina of squares and rectangles sunken into an organic shape, is also included on the CNC's casework. To manufacture it, the most sophisticated 5-axis CNC machine was needed. There will be other patterns available that resemble those used in Kostas' Haute Creation work for S.T. Dupont of Paris.
Two electrostatic headphones-specific, totally mono, ultra-low-noise, high voltage, completely discrete, and balanced amplifiers operating at over 1000V peak-peak are housed inside the enclosure. To prevent any interference with the delicate audio impulses, the 580V bias voltage [standard for STAX, SENHEISSER, and most electrostatic headphones] runs at high frequencies and is completely ripple-free.
The head part can be provided as a "stand" to hold the headphones while not in use, as well as in a variety of other configurations, such as a Tourbillon Clock version, a DAC [Digital to Analogue Converter], or in the not-too-distant future, a full digital music streamer.
The Ethereal may be utilized with the best in the business, including the STAX SR 009S, SR-X9000, Dan Clark VOCE, Sennheiser Orpheus, and others requiring 580V Biasing, while Kostas is still developing his matching X1 headphones.
