OMEGA opens 2026 by revisiting one of watchmaking’s most recognisable silhouettes: the Speedmaster Moonwatch. But, this time with a striking inverted dial configuration. Offered in two versions, stainless steel and 18K Moonshine™ Gold, these 42 mm chronographs reinterpret the Moonwatch’s classic codes through a high-contrast black-and-white aesthetic that feels both contemporary and unmistakably Speedmaster.

At the heart of the design is the Moonwatch’s signature step dial, now executed as a double plate. The top layer is finished in polished black with a rich varnished and lacquered sheen, while the subdials sit on a contrasting white base, framed in rhodium-plated surrounds. Minute tracks are thoughtfully inverted too white on the main dial and black on the subdials enhancing legibility while reinforcing the reversed visual theme.

Classic Moonwatch Codes, Sharpened

The monochrome dial is paired with a black ceramic bezel ring, filled with a white enamel tachymeter scale, including the iconic dot over 90. A box-shaped, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment adds vintage charm while meeting modern durability standards. Completing the look is OMEGA’s familiar polished-brushed Moonwatch bracelet, equipped with the brand’s patented comfort-release adjustment system for everyday ease.

Both models share the same design DNA, yet express it very differently. The stainless-steel version keeps things crisp and utilitarian, with rhodium-plated hands and hour markers filled with white Super-LumiNova. The Moonshine™ Gold edition, on the other hand, leans unapologetically luxurious, with hands, indexes and subdial elements crafted in OMEGA’s proprietary 18K gold alloy, complemented by a PVD Moonshine™ Gold chronograph seconds hand.

Moonshine™ Gold: A Signature in Precious Metal

Introduced in 2019, OMEGA’s Moonshine™ Gold is a paler, more luminous take on traditional yellow gold, inspired by the glow of moonlight against a dark sky. Its carefully balanced composition including silver, copper and palladium ensures long-term colour stability and resistance to fading. In this Speedmaster, the alloy lends warmth and depth to the otherwise graphic black-and-white dial, while sapphire crystals on both the front and caseback allow the details to be admired from every angle. The design takes cues from the fourth-generation Speedmaster worn on the Moon, grounding this contemporary update firmly in the watch’s storied past.

A Calibre with Lunar Credentials

Powering both versions is the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, the most advanced evolution of the legendary Calibre 321 the movement trusted by NASA astronauts during the Apollo missions. Manually wound and METAS-certified, the 3861 offers exceptional precision, resistance to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, and a five-year warranty.

The movement drives the small seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour counters, along with the central chronograph function, all finished with rhodium-plated bridges and straight Geneva waves- a fitting mechanical foundation for a watch so deeply connected to space exploration.

Why the Speedmaster Still Matters

The Speedmaster Moonwatch remains one of the most important chronographs ever made, having accompanied all six lunar landings. With these new inverted-dial editions, OMEGA proves that even the most sacred icons can evolve thoughtfully, confidently, and without losing sight of what made them legendary in the first place. In India, the Speedmaster matters because it represents a rare intersection of global legacy and personal aspiration. For Indian collectors, it isn’t just a chronograph with an extraordinary spacefaring past; it is often a first step into serious watch collecting, a watch that signals both knowledge and intent.

The Speedmaster’s history tested by NASA, worn on the Moon and unchanged in spirit for decades resonates deeply in a market that values provenance, storytelling and objects that endure across generations. Equally important is its versatility: the Speedmaster transitions seamlessly from boardroom to celebration, making it a natural fit for Indian lifestyles where a single watch often carries emotional as well as financial significance. In a country where horology is increasingly about informed choice rather than conspicuous display, the Speedmaster stands as a quiet, credible icon.
