Only Watch 2023: URWERK’s Space Time Blade Explores A Different Realm Of Time
URWERK sets off on a brand-new, ground-breaking trip that redefines the fundamental nature of time using an innovative and alluring strategy. There isn't even a case, dial, or crown, let alone a satellite hours or hours and minutes hand.
Does this device even have a timer? Without a doubt - and delightfully so!
To realize this exceptional vision, the skills of skilled craftsman Dalibor Farny has been hired. Prepare for an adventure that will leave you speechless. The Space-Time Blade, a fascinating glass column that records not only the hours, minutes, and seconds, but also the kilometers traveled on Earth, will help you navigate the Spacetime continuum. This fantastic masterpiece, which the gifted Dalibor Farny encased in glass, merges artistry and accuracy and invites you to explore a realm where time becomes brilliant.
An incandescent, almost sentimental homage to Nixie tubes, which were first used to show numerals using glow discharge in the 1950s, sits at the center of this exceptional timepiece. The Space-Time Blade, 1.62 m tall and 40 kg in weight was created to fulfill URWERK's vision. Its base is a massive, towering URWERK bronze crown with a glass dome on top. A blowtorch was used to carefully shape each of the eight Nixie bulbs, which are arranged vertically beneath the latter. Each glass tube has a wire-mesh anode, a low-pressure neon gas filler, and cathodes that are used to create the numerals. Each cathode from 0 to 9 is manufactured specifically for that unit.
The entire assembly is then carefully put together with pliers, resembling the most delicate of crafts. Each cathode is surrounded by a characteristic orange glow when the current is turned on, creating a captivating visual spectacle. The display can change up to 100,000 times per second.
These tiny, delicate bulbs show the rotational distance of the Earth in kilometers as well as the time (hours, minutes, and seconds). This astonishing timepiece's remote control, which is equally amazing, controls its display with the authority of a lightsaber, presiding over the displays of the Space-Time Blade. It has six positions that can be set:
- Time indication in hours, minutes, seconds
- Time indication in hours, minutes, seconds, 1/10, and 1/100 of a second
- Indication of kilometers covered in one day (Earth's rotation at the Equator)
- Indication of kilometers traveled in one day (Earth's revolution around the Sun)
- Indication of kilometers traveled in one year (Earth's revolution around the sun)
- Maintenance process
The Only Watch association, which has been valiantly battling against Duchenne muscular dystrophy for the past ten years, will benefit from the auction of this remarkable Space-Time Blade, which is the first in a potential series that might be unveiled in 2024.
