Showcasing elegance and technical prowess yet again Patek Philippe has dropped a new invention: The Advanced Research Fortissimo REF 5750, which will entice all fans of minute repeaters and technical premieres, with its distinctive fortissimo "ff" system for sound amplification and propagation.
The Ref. 5750P is housed in a slim case with a domed bezel, modelled after the Ref. 5178-minute repeater with cathedral gongs, which has a 40 mm diameter.
The five-part intricately built dial displays a perforated motif inspired by classic automotive spoked wheels in the middle. A revolving disc with the same perforated motif on a black snailed background and a little marking that serves as a hand make up the subsidiary seconds at 6 o'clock.
The hammers and classic gongs of the minute repeater, as well as the sound lever in the shape of a tuning fork that carries the transparent oscillating wafer of the fortissimo amplifier system, are visible through the sapphire case back. This limited special edition features a gleaming orange alligator strap with black contrast seams and a platinum fold-over clasp.
SOUND PROPAGATION IN A NEW FORMULA
The fortissimo module, backed by four patents, provides the harmonic quality and aural richness which comes as no surprise for a Patek Philippe minute repeater. The knocks of the hammers on the gongs cause oscillations throughout the watch just like a traditional minute repeater. The sound is channelled to an oscillating wafer alone by a sound lever in the minute repeater with the fortissimo module and broadcasted to the outside through four apertures at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock in a titanium ring. As a result, the casing material does not affect the sound and its transmission.
All About The Movement
Patek Philippe "Advanced Research" engineers and designers diverged from the legendary self-winding calibre R 27. The movement ushered the great comeback of the minute repeater in 1989.
Apart from the fortissimo module, platinum hammers replace the minute repeater hammers which were initially made of steel. These hammers are a patented solution that increases the strike quality in accordance with Patek Philippe Seal regulations.
A platinum minirotor replaces the eccentrically recessed minirotor in 22K gold. It provides the same winding power with a slimmer design because of the higher material density. Also, it partially counterbalances the thickness of the fortissimo module.
