Piaget Polo Skeleton- A Celebration Of High Jewellery Expertise
Who knew a gem like a diamond could make its way to everyone's heart. While donning a piece of the diamond often adds the oomph factor to your outfits, you can only imagine what a timepiece with 1746 brilliant-cut gemstones can do! The Maison’s mastery of high-watchmaking meets fine jewellery-making to kick off Watches and Wonders 2022. While the watch fraternity looks forward to this phygital show, Piaget sure knows how to set the mood right with this exceptional launch.
The Piaget Polo Skeleton is here to make heads turn, attract the eye and make every watch aficionado want to own it. However, Even the 1746 brilliant-cut gemstones can't take the attention away from the Piaget Polo Skeleton's 1200S1 self-winding ultra-thin skeleton manufacturing calibre.
A Celebration Of The Present Times
The Piaget Polo was established in 1979 with the goal of creating a sophisticated watch for everyday use, one that would combine all of the Piaget design codes associated with style, casual elegance, and freedom, and that goal hasn't changed. The Piaget Polo is a tribute to the charismatic, trend-setters, risk-takers, and party-goers who enjoy life to the fullest. In my opinion, the Maison has always been one to constantly innovate and improve. Be it the design, the movement, or adding elegance to every timepiece. The 1200S1 is not only skeletonized, but it is also ultra-thin at only 2.4mm, making it one of the world's thinnest mechanical self-winding movements. At Piaget, it is the peak of the skeletonization art.
The slate-grey movement is based on Piaget's legendary ultra-thin automatic 1200P, which took over two years to skeletonize into the 1200S. This conversion to an open-worked movement was accomplished by eliminating a considerable section of the metal, leaving only what was required for accurate timekeeping.
Piaget continued to develop and improve the movement after the 1200S, constantly pushing to do better, resulting in the 1200S1, the next skeleton movement generation, two and a half years later.
The 1200S1 includes a regulating component that gives better resistance to magnetic fields, among other upgrades and updates. This version, like the 1200S and 1200P before it, features an off-centred oscillating weight at 8 o'clock, letting the most amount of light into the movement through two sapphire crystals on the front and back. With its numerous layered depth within an ultra-thin calibre, it is this play on light and contrast that distinguishes this timepiece. Despite its pared-down components' detailed appearance, the Piaget Polo Skeleton has a 44-hour power reserve and a 30-meter water resistance.
Fine Jewellery Arts And More
This watch's 42mm white gold case, which is only 7.35mm thick, is set with 268 brilliant-cut diamonds and comes with a white gold polished and satin-finished 'H' design integrated bracelet that is set with a total of 1478 brilliant-cut diamonds. The entire setting takes more than 61 hours to complete and is made possible by a unique savoir-faire in which the diamonds are cut to size before being set. This demonstrates Piaget's competence in high jewellery and gem-setting, where artisans in the "Atelier Extraordinaire" collaborate to create extra-ordinary pieces. A folding clasp is included in the timepiece, as well as a reversed diamond on the crown for a sophisticated finish.
Why choose haute horlogerie over haute joaillerie when you can have both? Well, this timepiece is a true testament to the above and also of Piaget’s daring creativity! What a way to kick off Watches & Wonders 2022.
