Sarpaneva Launches Stardust And Stardust Nostromo | Beyond The Moon To Infinity

Are you ready to take off to the Moon? Sarpaneva is here to teleport you into the future. The brand-new Stardust and Stardust Nostromo represent an important turning point for Finland's independent watchmaker: the road already traveled by Finnish watchmaker Sarpaneva, and the journey still to come, beyond the Moon... to infinity.

Stepan Sarpaneva returned to Helsinki, Finland, twenty years ago with the intention of putting into practice all that he had learned at the benches of some of Switzerland's top watchmakers.

After receiving guidance from the likes of fellow Finn Kari Voutilainen and Swiss masters Vianney Halter, Christophe Claret, and Michel Parmigiani, Stepan was able to produce a line of otherworldly neo-Gothic clocks that quickly gained a cult following. But most importantly, Stepan's hard credo: "#notforeveryone" was inspired by the harsh climate of Finland, a family history of creative stars, and his own obstinate beliefs.

It's been 20 years since that initial "sisu" (Finnish for "pursuit") into the unknown, and these Sarpaneva timepieces serve as a commemorative token. Both are made of Finnish forged stainless steel in Stepan's distinctive 'Korona' shape but can be easily differentiated by their painstakingly open-worked dials, which feature futuristic, stenciled numerals befitting a rocket's fuselage.

One, the Sarpaneva Stardust looks up at the night sky with a hand-flamed titanium base dial illuminating from below, swirling with colors crafted from different torch temperatures, and evoking the deep-space constellations caught and depicted so vividly by Observatory telescopes.

The other is the Sarpaneva Stardust 'Nostromo,' which features a brilliant array of hand-applied Tritec luminescence, made in-house at the Sarpaneva workshop, and is aimed firmly towards Sarpaneva's future, its next two decades' trajectory. Around ten o'clock, there are a black, polished rocket ship's little seconds hand, with the crosshairs and numerals around it flashing in the LED orange of a cockpit display.

Chronode's rhodium-plated geometries of the ultra-contemporary P.1003 caliber can be seen to tick slowly and surely through the clear caseback of both Stardust limited editions. This is the very first time the transfer has been made from the center position to the small seconds. Stepan was able to build his designs around the subdial's open, acentric placement, which was a crucial factor. Certainly, the Moon has a role in the unique winding rotor. And don't forget to add a little light to the Sarpaneva "new moon" face.
