Seiko Presage Line: The Arita Porcelain Dial Limited Edition

Arita, a little town in Kyushu, Japan's third-biggest island in the southwest, rose to popularity in the early 17th century when they found clay suitable for porcelain manufacture there, and its porcelain wares quickly became highly appreciated in Japan for their artistry. This artistry has taken also made its way to the watch industry with the launch of the Seiko Presage Prestige Line.
The mechanical movement of the Seiko Presage carries on Seiko's over 100-year watchmaking legacy. Every feature of the watch demonstrates the attention and craftsmanship for which Presage is known, especially the beauty of the Arita porcelain dial.
The Arita Porcelain Dial
This dial recreates the subtle lapis lazuli colours developed by a traditional dyeing technique known as "ruri zome" in this limited edition. Representative Arita Porcelain works, such as the huge tripod dishes from Kyushu adorned with heron motifs, use this method. The dial captures the gentle, light tones and tints of the ruri zome method, creating a lovely look on the wrist.
The dials are made in a multi-stage process that combines expertise, patience, and craftsmanship. The dials are finished with an Arita porcelain glaze that gives them a deep, rich sheen.

The porcelain dials are created in Arita by a seasoned porcelain craftsman who has been in business since 1830. Hiroyuki Hashiguchi is the master craftsman, and he and his crew have been working with the Presage team to design the dials. What more can you expect from the master himself? As a certificate of limited quantity, the case back is marked with the letter "LIMITED EDITION" and a serial number between 001/2000 and 2000/2000. This magnificent watch, with Calibre 6R27 and a limited edition of 2000 pieces, will be available in January 2022.
