Panerai returns to the field of chronography with three new watches. Enough has been written about Panerai’s association with chronographs so let’s dive right into what they have introduced to the Luminor range at Watches & Wonder 2021. Reaffirming their role in the sphere of chronography, Panerai has introduced three new Luminor Chrono’s ( PAM01109, PAM01218 and PAM01110).

PAM01110

At first glance, they didn’t seem all that different to me, but I have to admit the PAM 1110 has grown on me. The three new Luminor Chrono’s feature the quintessential sandwich dial with the seconds at 9 o’clock and the chronograph minutes counter a t3 o’clock and and blue hands that are devoted to that function. The brushed steel case has Panerai’s patented crown-protecting bridge on the right and the chronograph controls on the left. The watches also feature a “base 1000” tachymeter scale on the flange which lets you calculate the average speed over a predefined distance, in kilometers or miles.

With a two day power reserve, these new 44mm Luminor Chrono’s, powered by Panerai’s self-winding Caliber P.9200 are waterproof upto, well more than 100 meters.

The Luminor Chrono PAM01109 and PAM01218 models feature two straps, in alligator leather and rubber, equipped with a trapezoidal pin buckle in brushed steel.

“We Believe Panerai’s new collection of the Luminor chrono in 44mm will create a deeper connect with the Indian consumers of Luxury watches. As Panerai had very limited options available in 44mm, these sporty yet sophisticated watches will cater to a new segment of clients while making an excellent addition to the collection of the existing owners. We are hoping the pent-up demand will get further unleashed this season with the launch of this collection”, said the directors of The Art of Time boutique, Mumbai’s destination for watch lovers holding rare, unique and crafted timepieces.

While all the three Luminor Chrono's, the matte black, white matte and the blue dial versions sport the traditional Luminor arabic numerals and indexes in white Super-LumiNovaTM with green luminescence, the one that has got my attention without a doubt is that gorgeous blue dial with the satiné soleil finishing - the Luminor Chrono PAM01110. With a diameter of 44mm and a thickness of 15.65mm, and solely on the basis of the visuals I have seen, the watch just seems slimmer & lighter, catering to the preliminary quest for ergonomics. It is of course characterised by the deployant clasp with slimmer blades and sits on a metal bracelet that is customised with the engraved “OP” logo. Moreover, the links of the bracelet are inspired by the emblematic Panerai safety lock system.

All the Luminor Chrono have a relatively user-friendly strap interchangeable system which let’s you move from metal bracelet to alligator or calf and vice versa in the comfort of your own home.
