This is certainly a breath of fresh air by Breitling, Chronomats dedicated to women of purpose, action and substance, basically to “Women”!
The #SQUADONAMISSION campaign, as they call it features three women who have certainly shattered the stereotypes clinging to their gender and respective fields : Charlize Theron, Misty Copeland, and Yao Chen.
Breitling CEO Georges Kern adds: “Who better than Charlize Theron, Misty Copeland, and Yao Chen to turn the spotlight on major global causes as they redefine what it means to be a strong woman? Three leading stars known for being fierce and pushing boundaries. What binds them together is the Spotlight Squad and Breitling’s dedication to change, diversity, and reshaping the world we live in.” “And now – dedicated to women – the new Chronomat 36 and 32 collection embodies flair, confidence, and an active lifestyle.”
To match the versatility of their Spotlight Squad, Breitling introduced the first-ever Chronomat’s designed for women – the Breitling Chronomat 36 and 32 series. Symbolizing competence and effortless style this modern-retro-inspired watch easily takes you from business meetings to the beach – and everywhere in between.
Did you know: Since the 1940s, Breitling has created a variety of dedicated women’s models. There was the delicate ladies’ TransOcean, called the “most wonderful expression of Breitling precision” back in 1957. The Lady J made a bold statement in the 1990s. Then the Galactic brought a “blend of refined luxury and uncompromising technical sophistication” in 2010. More recent women’s timepieces include the iconic Navitimer 35 and 38 and the sporty Superocean 36. The original 1984 Chronomat helped signal a rebirth of the Swiss watch industry, and it has inspired many more timepieces over the past four decades – including women’s models.
Now let’s come back to the new Breitling Chronomat 36 and 32 watches that Breitling has launched this year. If I am being brutally honest, I would never imagine myself wearing a Breitling that was manufactured for women. But that’s just my perception of the brand. However, I did quite like these 36mm & 32mm Chronomats, well the former more than the latter. On first glance what struck me are the soft curves and pastel shades on these watches. For the Chronomat 36 there are ten versions to choose from, with special lacquered dials in white, pale green, midnight blue, or copper. The Breitling Chronomat 32, the SuperQuartz™ version, comes in seven variants, with white or midnight blue dials. The other aspect that caught my attention here is that even though the watches have been downsized, they still sport the iconic Rouleaux bracelet with a butterfly clasp.
The new Breitling Chronomat’s for women are available in an array of metal cases ranging from stainless steel to bicolor and red gold. And ladies, if you are craving that extra sparkle you could opt for the variant with diamond-set bezels and indexes. Although personally I couldn’t wrap my mind around a Chronomat with diamonds!
Like all Breitling watches, the chronometers are COSC-certified and boast of a 100-meter water resistance. The Chronomat Automatic 36 is powered by the Breitling Caliber 10 with a power reserve of about 42 hours. The Chronomat 32 on the other hand is a quartz and runs on the Breitling Caliber 77 with a battery life of three to four years.
Resonating with their #SQUADONAMISSION campaign, undoubtedly these two modern-retro watches of the Chronomat 36 and 32 collection do shine the spotlight on confident and versatile women. Personally would I add a 32mm diamond studded quartz Chronomat to my collection? Certainly not. However, I would consider the 36mm gorgeous copper dial with the two-tone Rouleaux bracelet. Being a Breitling it is robust, yet has a certain elegant flair to it.
