A Carl F. Bucherer Watch Inspired by a Family Car

Here’s how the story goes. The classic Lincoln Cosmopolitan Town Sedan that originally belonged to Carl Eduard Bucherer, the son of Carl Friedrich Bucherer changed hands several times since it was sold in 1952. In 2013, however, Jörg G. Bucherer, Carl Eduard’s son, finally bought back the family car and restored it to its original glory. As a fitting tribute to its founding family and their cherished automobile, Carl F. Bucherer has introduced a light blue timepiece with a very vintage and classic design appeal – The Heritage BiCompax Annual Lucerne.

“This is such an incredible narrative. All of us who have been privileged to work closely with Jörg G. Bucherer over the years know how much this car means to him. Our designers and watchmakers took inspiration from the automobile and created a great timepiece that pays homage to the Chairman of the Bucherer Group, to his passion for the family car that returned to his life after so many years, and, of course, to our belovedhometown of Lucerne, the place where the car and the Bucherer family have shared such an extraordinary history.”

Although the Heritage BiCompax Annual Lucerne recalls some of the finest timepieces from an earlier era, the mechanical movement at the heart of the watch is the CFB Caliber 1972 automatic chronograph with a 42 hour power reserve. It also features an annual calendar complication that accounts for different month lengths – 30 and 31 days – so the date only has to be corrected once a year, on March 1.

The 41mm watch is presented in a steel case on a multi-link Milanese steel bracelet with a folding clasp. However, you can easily change the look according to your choice of outfit and plans for the day as it is also delivered with calfskin leather strap with a folding clasp which also has a quick release system. No surprises here.
Aesthetically too, this Heritage BiCompax Annual Lucerne is quite pleasing to the eyes. The silvery-colored dial that features light blue subdials with chronograph minutes and small seconds counters, is further accentuated by a light blue ring with a tachymeter scale. The light blue resonating with the color of the restored classic Lincoln Cosmopolitan Town Sedan. The dial also sports a month aperture between 4 and 5 o’clock and a big date window just below 12 o’clock.

This celebration of the Bucherer family and its connection to classic cars, is produced in an edition limited to 188 pieces only. Much like it’s inspiration that makes a profound impression on everyone who sees it navigating Switzerland’s highways and byways, the Carl F. Bucherer Heritage BiCompax Annual Lucerne will surely catch every eye in the room.
