Machismo. The word’s enough to stir up an array of reactions. For some, it’s all about male pride, while for others, it’s a synonym for negativity and an antonym to feminism. But technically, it’s described as an exaggerated sense of masculinity. It’s often unfortunately sought as a nature-given entitlement to dominate.

For me personally, at least in my growing years, I always thought being macho was all about riding a Harley while smoking cigars and being a generic menace of sorts. Oh, and also, it felt machoistic to wear a watch that felt like a literal pound on the wrist.

Well, as we all (or almost all) now know, it’s plain nonsense.

The very culturally conditioned idea of machismo is nothing but a tasteless and fake narrative of peak masculinity. Being a man has never been about the aspect of hollow showmanship. It’s about being authentic, chivalrous, and living with purpose. As a grown-up, I’d now say that true masculinity is just being a self-satisfied human who happens to be a man. And, also, being gentlemanly elegant.

It is the latter where the earlier notion of a big-faced brick of a watch exists as a philosophical aside to a true man’s hostility to neediness. Hence, when elegance is concerned, the talk tilts towards small watches, which of today, and as evident from the many novelties at Watches and Wonders 2026, are a trend in full revival.

It’s not a departure from the so-called manly bravado of >44mm cases, but an acquiescing of sensibility via practicality of comfort and ergonomics. So, if you wish to embrace true machismo and be elegant in self-actualization, it pays the right dividends to ditch a few diameters and discover genuine pride in elegance via the latest novelties from Geneva.

Here are our top five small watches from Watches and Wonders 2026.

Oris Star Edition - 35mm
Price: ₹ 2,14,000

Oris Star Edition introduced at Watches and Wonders 2026.

In a market saturated with the standard of 42mm case sizes, Oris’ Star Edition with a diameter of just 35mm is a stark aside. This is the kind of watch that makes you re-evaluate what “small” really means on the wrist. Drawing a direct line back to 1966 and the brand’s first lever‑escapement wristwatch, it uses a very vintage sized 35mm case not as a nostalgic gimmick, but as the central, modern argument for elegance, proportion, and daily wearability in 2026.

The Star Edition’s 35mm stainless‑steel case sounds conservative on paper, but its tonneau profile and integrated lugs give it far more presence than a bare diameter figure suggests. At 41.5 mm lug‑to‑lug and 11.1mm thick, the watch sits low and compact, wrapping the wrist rather than overhanging it, which is precisely what you want when you’re arguing for smaller cases in an era still haunted by 42mm “everythings.”

The Oris Star Edition's case measures 35mm.

Oris has kept the silhouette remarkably faithful to the 1966 original. Within the broader conversation about reduced case sizes, the Star Edition is a concrete demonstration of how numbers can mislead and proportions can rescue. While its technical spec sheet reads like something plucked from the mid‑1960s, on the wrist it punches well above vintage‑dress‑watch timidness owing to its tonneau architecture. The effective footprint on the wrist is closer to a very compact modern 36-37mm round watch, so you get the visual impact of a proper daily piece without the acreage. The Star Edition is so authentic and faithful to the original, that it almost feels like a New Old Stock Oris from the 1960s.

IWC Ingenieur Automatic - 35mm
Price: ₹ 11,10,000

IWC Ingenieur Automatic introduced at Watches and Wonders 2026.

While the Ingenieur in a 35mm case was a previous year novelty, at Watches and Wonders 2026, IWC has expanded the collection with two new references: a blue dial that realizes an accomplished mid-sized lineup, and the first gem-set Ingenieur of the modern era. With the Ingenieur Automatic 35, IWC serves the clearest proof that a tasteful integrated‑bracelet sports watch doesn’t need a 40mm dia to feel authoritative. The 35mm iteration is a delight for the Genta‑faithful and more purist collectors.

At exactly 35.1mm in diameter and just 9.4mm in height, the watch preserves the signature profile of the 40mm model, but compresses it into something closer to the spirit, and wrist presence, of classic mid‑century tool watches. As integrated bracelet watches generally wear more substantially than their specified diameters suggest, the Ingenieur 35 best realizes a compact proportion without compromising any of the model’s foundational codes.

The Ref. IW324907 is, in many ways, the “purest” iteration of the concept: a stainless‑steel case and integrated bracelet framing a Grid dial in the brand’s signature deep blue hue. This color is not arbitrary, IWC has been using blue dials since the late 1960s, and one of the earliest blue IWCs was itself an Ingenieur Automatic. The 35mm size for the Ingenieur Automatic does not feel nostalgic for vintage dimensions, instead, it feels precisely contemporary in its understanding of wearability.

Tudor Royal - 36mm
Price: ₹ 3,02,800

Tudor Royal introduced at Watches and Wonders 2026.

The Royal collection at Tudor is a lineup that acts as a connecting link between its sport and dress models. Even by Tudor standards, the Royal has been a center of value for the brand and now gets even better for the buck with an evolution via a COSC-certified manufacture caliber and an integrated five-link bracelet now equipped with the “T-fit” rapid adjustment system. In its more conservative yet contemporary 36mm variant, the Royal leverages its mid-size dimensions to yield a deliberate ergonomic sweet-spot.

On paper, the watch measures 36mm across, around 9.7mm in thickness, and roughly 42.2mm from lug to lug, giving it proportions that echo the classic “everything watch” template. Those numbers matter: the short lug span and modest vertical dimension keep the watch planted and composed even on smaller wrists, yet the broad, notched bezel and integrated bracelet allow it to carry visual weight enough for enthusiasts used to 40mm sports styles.

The Tudor Royal's case measures 36mm.

What Tudor has done with the 36mm Royal is create a modern case architecture that delivers the presence enthusiasts expect from a contemporary integrated‑bracelet piece, while occupying physical real estate far closer to true vintage. In its pricing too, the Royal is restrained, but never technically compromised, as its caliber MT5412 is regulated to an accuracy of -2/+4 seconds per day and provides a 70-hour power reserve while offering better amagnetic performance and improved shock resistance.

While not a total reinvention, the updated Royal released at Watches and Wonders 2026 offers legitimate course-correction that was long pending in this not as core as the cult-favorite collection from Tudor, which now has found its proper footing.

A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Annual Calendar - 36mm
Price: Approx. ₹ 71,08,660

A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Annual Calendar introduced at Watches and Wonders 2026.

The previously-discontinued Saxonia Annual Calendar returns at Watches and Wonders 2026 in a purely petite dimension. At 36mm, it’s remarkably smaller, but not less impressive. With redundancy in dimensions, the Saxonia Annual Calendar amplifies in elegance and intelligence. The latter being a courtesy of the all-new caliber L207.1. even in its very restrained form, the Saxonia Annual Calendar perfectly attributes the brand’s obsessive, almost maniacal, attention to details, both on its recto and especially on its verso side.

If luxury and mechanical complexity without real estate is a desirable, then this watch abundantly over-delivers. The dial, despite packing ample information feels legible and the very complex mechanics beneath are delivered with haute horlogerie level decoration via a hand-engraved balance cock, screwed gold chatons, anglage and prominent striping on the German silver bridges.

The Saxonia Annual Calendar in a 36mm case will definitely attract interest from buyers traditionally hooked to a Swiss counterpart better known for this complication. Prioritizing wearability alongside mechanical complexity, this watch maintains the in-brand and generic trend of downsizing and marries technical brilliance with emotional resonance via its petite realization.

Chopard L.U.C 1860 - 36.5mm
Price: ₹ 27,80,000

Chopard L.U.C 1860 introduced at Watches and Wonders 2026.

While I’m fond of the tradition of having dessert first, owing to life’s unpredictability, but here, I’ve reserved the best for the last. Personally, the Chopard L.U.C 1860 has been a favorite ever since the salmon-copper dial came about in 2023. It’s one of the most elegantly proper dress watches on the market, and now, we get its replacement with an “Areuse Blue” dial. Its combination of blue and stainless steel makes it an everyday watch.

If the dress watch genre revives to its former glory, this should be the blueprint, the specimen, and the patient zero for the phenomenon. This epitome of a dress watch gets a hand-guilloché "Areuse Blue" gold dial and what’s the real star of the show here, the L.U.C 96.40-L micro-rotor COSC-certified caliber which also gets a Poinçon de Genève quality hallmark.

With a diameter of 36.5mm and a thickness of 8.2mm, the L.U.C 1860 is properly proportioned as an elegant timekeeper deserves the merit of the most elegant novelty from Watches and Wonders 2026.

Yes, small watches are a big trend!
