In the world of independent watchmaking, few brands balance heritage, design and technical sophistication as well as Beda’a. Founded in 2016, the brand draws on Arabian heritage and Swiss watchmaking skills to create timepieces that appeal to both the eye and the engineer's mind. At Geneva Watch Days 2025, Beda’a unveiled a watch that collectors have long awaited: the Angles Mecaline, the first mechanical version of its best-selling Angles collection.

A Leap from Quartz to Mechanical

The Angles collection has been celebrated for its octagonal bezel, angled case middle and precisely proportioned stepped layers. This design is so integral that any change would disrupt its harmony. However, collectors had been asking for a mechanical option, a hand-wound watch that could bring the Angles’ minimalist elegance to a deeper horological level.

Transforming a quartz watch into a mechanical one is not straightforward. A mechanical movement requires more space, which usually results in a noticeably thicker case. For the Angles, thickness was never an option. Beda’a embarked on a 15-month engineering journey, balancing precise refinements with the need to keep the watch’s design DNA intact. The solution was the ETA 7001 hand-wound movement, offering 42 hours of power reserve, fitted within a case that is only 0.7 mm thicker than its quartz predecessor. The difference is hardly noticeable, yet it turns the watch into a collector’s mechanical marvel.

Technical Ingenuity in Every Detail

To accommodate the movement without sacrificing aesthetics, every part of the Angles Mecaline was carefully reconsidered:

- The bezel, dial and crystal were slimmed to keep visual balance.

- A solid case back replaced the sapphire display back to avoid extra height.

- The crown was redesigned for smooth daily hand-winding.

- A small seconds hand at 6 o'clock serves as both a functional indicator and a design feature, setting the mechanical version apart from the quartz.

The dial itself remains pure and minimal reflecting the distinctive aesthetic of the Angles collection while subtly showing the movement beneath.

Debut on the Global Stage

The Angles Mecaline makes its first public appearance at Geneva Watch Days 2025, where independent watchmakers and collectors come together to celebrate innovation, craftsmanship, and design excellence. For those who appreciate precision, minimalism, and mechanical skill, the Angles Mecaline represents a masterclass in design-led engineering Here, enthusiasts can experience firsthand the precision engineering, subtle design evolution, and hand-wound mechanical charm that define the Mecaline.

The excitement will hopefully be carried on in India at the India Watch Weekend, an event dedicated to independent watchmaking. Collectors will have the chance to explore innovative timepieces, connecting with brands that are changing the landscape of contemporary horology. Being a watch brand that honors its heritage while pushing the frontiers of independent watchmaking, Beda’a will go down as a brand that collectors would love to have in their collection.
