GPHG 2023 Jury Announced! Horology Luminaries Including Yashoo Saboo On The Panel

The composition of the 23rd Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) Jury 2023 was announced last week on the GPHG website. To make this announcement even more significant for India, Yashoo Saboo, Founder and Chairman of Ēthos and Taratec / India is also part of this year's jury! The 30 international jury members from the worlds of watchmaking and arts will meet privately a few days before the awards ceremony. Under the guidance of Jury President Nick Foulkes, they will assess the 90 nominated timepieces and vote by secret ballot to select this year's winners, under notarial supervision.

Foulkes says:  “It is a tremendous privilege to serve as president of the jury of the GPHG; more than a competition, it is a celebration of excellence in a field that is historically, culturally and commercially significant to the city of Geneva. With its expanding series of international exhibitions and the ever-higher profile of the awards ceremony, the GPHG is one of the most effective ambassadors for modern horology in all its varied guises.

From intricately wrought complications and dazzling jewellery watches to simple time-only pieces: what is unique about the GPHG is that it offers a level playing field to all those who participate. Brands and makers unfamiliar to the wider world compete alongside some of the most celebrated names in horology. The composition of this year’s jury is another demonstration of the deepening and broadening interest in watches as collectors, retailers, auctioneers, social media personalities, watchmakers, commentators and writers from around the world assume the responsibility of selecting winning watches from a rich and impressive field”.

The GPHG Academy shortlisted 84 watches and 6 clocks across 15 categories, to compete for the 20 awards including the prestigious Aiguille d’Or Grand Prix. The 850-member Academy will also vote for the winners on a dedicated digital platform. A traveling exhibition presenting the shortlisted watches will visit Macao, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, New York, and Geneva this autumn.

The Fondation du Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève will reveal the 2023 GPHG winners on Thursday, November 9 during the awards ceremony, at the Théâtre du Léman in Geneva, starting at 6:30 pm.
