Greubel Forsey Unveils The Double Balancier Convexe In Carbon - Geneva Watch Days 2023
Greubel Forsey ushers in a new era of carbon timepieces, seamlessly integrating this exceptional material into their esteemed collections. The Maison takes the Double Balancier Convexe to the next level with the launch of a new carbon timepiece limited to 22 pieces. The carbon infusion for the Double Balancier Convexe adds an ethereal lightness and fortified durability, captivating collectors and connoisseurs alike.
A Dual Hearted Timepiece Crafted From Carbon
An emblem of recognition, the 42.5mm Convexe case crafted from carbon splendidly benefits from this visionary material choice. Adhering gracefully to the wrist's curvature on the case back, the timepiece presents a captivating three-dimensional dial profile across which the carbon's uniqueness shines through. Each piece is a singular work of art and the carbon fibers weaving a distinctive narrative emphasize the exclusivity of every timepiece.
For the manufacturer, creating the Convexe carbon case was no ordinary endeavor. Greubel Forsey's bespoke carbon case technique necessitates an astonishing 8-fold pressure increase compared to industry norms. This mechanical dedication yields denser carbon nearly identical in weight to its counterpart, an indulgence bestowed upon the collector.
For Greubel Forsey, this novel technique transcends mere mechanics, extending the canvas for manual fine watchmaking finishes that epitomize the Atelier's essence and prestige. Satin, matte, and relief engraving adorn the Double Balancier Convexe, perfectly harmonizing with the carbon's inherent artistry, guided by Greubel Forsey's meticulous alignment with the Convexe case's converging lines.
An Evolution Of Mechanical Complexities
A testament to inventive evolution at the Maison, this sixth Fundamental Invention emerges as a singular expression. Its prototype mechanism was patented in 2007, born within an Experimental Watch Technology project, where twin regulating organs were inclined at 20°. The saga continued with a second caliber, six masterpieces strong, showcasing regulating organs positioned on 3D planes, this time inclined at 35°.
In 2016, Greubel Forsey unveiled the innovation in its present form: side-by-side balance wheels, inclined at 30°, connected by a constant spherical differential visible between 6 and 7 o'clock. Within every 4-minute cycle, error margins are halved, meeting Greubel Forsey's unwavering demands for performance, precision, and reliability across their illustrious horological collection.
The beating hearts of the movement in the Double Balancier Convexe feature a duo of 30° inclined balance wheels which work independently to optimize performance primarily for stable positions. A constant spherical differential provides a steady amplitude throughout the 72 hours of chronometric power reserve. At the same time, these regulating organs offer an incredible visual spectacle we can’t take our eyes off.
A Horological Spectacle To Behold
The 22 piece limited edition in carbon has two hearts beating as one and expresses the fine elements of heritage craftsmanship in an ultra-contemporary package.
