India Watch Weekend 2025 wasn’t just an event, it was a movement. A revolution in India’s horology scene. The country’s first-of-its-kind luxury watch gathering shattered expectations, bringing together an elite league of over 450 collectors, connoisseurs, and watch enthusiasts.  From Bangalore to Coimbatore, Delhi to Chennai, and even global participants from Oman and the USA, this was where the world of fine timepieces truly came alive.

India’s fascination with luxury watches has been growing at an astonishing pace, and India Watch Weekend was the ultimate testament to this renaissance. Every wrist in the room told a story of vintage rarities, contemporary masterpieces, and high-complication marvels were all on full display. The sophistication and evolving tastes of Indian collectors were undeniable, making it clear that the country is fast becoming a global powerhouse in horology.

The first session was a power packed knowledge exchange where guests had to put on their thinking caps and participate in a watch quiz that really tested their knowledge of horology. The energy was infectious as the event kicked off with an adrenaline-pumping trivia challenge co-hosted by India Watch Weekend’s expert curators Karishma Karer and Punit Mehta.  Mumbai’s renowned watch retailer, Time Avenue, hosted the session at its watch boutique in Bandra.

The battle of wits saw teams tackle 4 intense rounds which carried 4 questions each covering the rich history of legendary watch brands and the intricate world of horological complications. The Rounds that covered a large spectrum of the watch industry were:

  • History Has It
  • 2 Lies And A Truth
  • Know Your Complications
  • Who Am I

The competition was fierce, the stakes were high, and the passion? Absolutely unmatched. Amidst some delicious refreshments offered by Time Avenue, the teams engaged in a spirited competition in a race to emerge victorious. Each question was accompanied by a timer which made the atmosphere even more buzzing!

2 Lies And A Truth

While some guests were able to easily answer questions, there were some questions that truly left them stumped. Questions like “Which was the most important innovation by Abraham Louis Breguet, except the Tourbillon?” from 2 Lies And A Truth was met with silence until the answer was revealed- Pare-chute.

Did You Know:

The "pare-chute" (also known as the "parachute" or "shock-absorbing device") invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1790 is a remarkable innovation that revolutionized watchmaking. A shock-absorbing device that revolutionized watchmaking by protecting the movement’s precision from damage caused by impacts.

Who Am I?

Another headscratcher was in the Who Am I category -  “I was the only WATCH that was serviced in space”, Who am I. This was met with surprised murmurs of appreciation for multiple brands, the correct response being Omega.

Did You Know:

In 2002, after five years of flawless performance aboard the International Space Station (ISS), astronaut Don Pettit's Omega Speedmaster required a new battery. Rather than sending the watch back to Earth, he sourced a replacement from the ISS’s equipment supply and installed it himself during a spacewalk, 260 miles above Earth. The fact that the watch could be serviced in the extreme conditions of space travel underscores why Omega remains the only timepiece officially approved by NASA for spacewalks and extravehicular activity (EVA).

History Has It

From the History Has It category, guests had to showcase their memory skills to answer the question: What inspired Jack Heuer to create the TAG Heuer Carrera, and what's the significance of the watch's name? The correct answer was the Carrera Panamericana, Mexican road rally.

Did You Know:

In 1962, at the Sebring race track, Jack Heuer met the parents of Mexican racers Ricardo and Pedro Rodriguez. They spoke of the Carrera Panamericana, a notoriously dangerous road race. The name ‘Carrera,’ meaning ‘race’ in Spanish, resonated with Heuer for its universal appeal. Upon returning to Switzerland, he registered the name for a new chronograph. Released in 1963, the TAG Heuer Carrera has since become an enduring icon of innovation and legacy.

Know Your Complications

And finally testing their technical know how, guests had to explain various watch complications through the Know Your Complications section. One question in particular was hard for the guests to explain as it involved a complicated response involving Jaeger-LeCoultre’s many complications. Explain the Duometre dual-wing concept.

Did You Know:

For any complicated watch, when you have a secondary function drawing power from the same barrel moving the hours minutes and seconds drive train, the addition of that extra load is going to lower the amplitude (beat energy) of the balance, slow the timing of the watch and have an adverse effect on its precision chronometric performance.

The Duometre : Two power supplies, two gear trains and their common regulating organ. two separate power reserves and drive trains, one gear train entirely dedicated to the balance wheel or timekeeping, while the second gear train carries the extra complexity, all so they do not interfere with the precision of the watch.
