IWC Schaffhausen x Filling Pieces: Luxury Watchmaking Unites With Streetwear Fashion
It’s raining collaborations in the watch world and this time around, it’s entering into the world of streetwear and fashion. The Swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen has teamed up with the Dutch streetwear and fashion brand Filling Pieces. In honor of IWC's new green ceramic hue "Woodland," their Amsterdam flagship shop will be decorated entirely in green for the next three weeks.
Guillaume Philibert, founder, and creative director of Filling Pieces has created a limited-edition sneaker called the "Low Top Ghost Woodland" to honor the collaboration. The shoe's design and color scheme are inspired by the Pilot's Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition "Woodland."
Guillaume Philibert started Filling Pieces in 2009 because he wanted to create high-quality sneakers at an affordable price. He then came up with the "Low Top," a hybrid of streetwear and high fashion that has since become a hallmark of the Dutch label's aesthetic and a symbol of accessible high fashion. As time has passed, Filling Pieces has become a well-known label in the world of high fashion, known for both its inventive footwear and its extensive ready-to-wear line, which includes bags, accessories, and eyewear.
IWC Schaffhausen and Filling Pieces have joined forces because they are both committed to quality and appreciate the value of handiwork, originality, and expression via color. Filling Pieces is an international collective that promotes design as a tool for social good. Its members come from all walks of life and work together across borders to develop innovative solutions to global problems and build bridges across communities. The values of diversity and inclusion are fundamental to the success of IWC's environmental initiatives. The Swiss watchmaker is pleased to partner with Filling Pieces to further its mission of uniting seemingly disparate fashion subcultures.
“There are many points of convergence between our industries, especially when it comes to craftsmanship, culture, and creativity. In every design project, we combine part of our history with new influences we pick up from the world around us. Architecture and fashion are often represented in colorful mood boards, and there’s probably not a board without sneakers. It’s exciting to see that our TOP GUN collection inspired Filling Pieces. With this partnership, we celebrate the culture of creation and exchange”, explains Christian Knoop, Chief Design Officer of IWC Schaffhausen.
Filling Pieces' flagship store in Amsterdam will be transformed into a monochromatic universe over the course of three weeks in honor of IWC's newly engineered ceramic hue "Woodland." IWC and Filling Pieces will each organize their own unique shows. The pop-up shop is an attempt to unite the brands' respective fan bases. Master classes in design and watchmaking will be offered, and there will also be panels discussing the metaverse and NFTs in relation to the fashion industry.
“We are thrilled to partner with IWC Schaffhausen and bring the best of our brands together in this exciting project. Filling Pieces embodies unity and togetherness and IWC incorporates precision and time. With our collaboration, we demonstrate how our values are intertwined with each other as a fundamental part of life and its expressions”, said Guillaume Philibert, Founder and Creative Director of Filling Pieces.
In addition, to honor the partnership, Guillaume Philibert has created a special edition pair of sneakers. The "Low Top Ghost Woodland" derives from Filling Piece's initial and most recognizable silhouette, the "Low Top." The first wristwatch in freshly engineered green ceramic, the IWC Pilot's Watch TOP GUN Chronograph Edition "Woodland" served as inspiration for the design and color scheme of this watch. Premium perforated nubuck leather upper with sewn Filling Pieces logo and the signature ghost outsole with lasered "X" design cue inspired by the watch band complement the unique PANTONE® "Woodland" hue.
As part of their "The Colors of TOP GUN" series, IWC debuted the Pilot's Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition "Woodland" (Ref. IW389106) at Watches and Wonders 2022 in Geneva.
The dial and ceramic case are both this shade of green, with lighter green printing for the hour markers and numerals. Zirconium oxide is combined with other metallic oxides before being sintered at high temperatures in a kiln to generate colored ceramics. Black Ceratanium® is used for the pushers and case back. It was developed by IWC, and it is both as light and as strong as titanium, and nearly as hard and scratch-resistant as ceramic. Using a column wheel construction, the IWC-made 69380 caliber powers the watch.
The shoe is available online on fillingpieces.com. Only 100 pairs in sizes ranging from 39 to 46 will be available. Customers who purchase a “Low Top Ghost Woodland '' will also receive an NFT that introduces owners to the “IWC Diamond Hand Club,” IWC’s exclusive tokenized community in the web3.
