When OMEGA decides to reinvent the Planet Ocean, it doesn’t do it quietly. Two decades after the Seamaster Planet Ocean first entered the dive-watch hall of fame, the brand has returned with a fourth-generation collection that’s sharper, slimmer, and far more cinematic than before. This isn’t just a redesign it’s a full-blown glow-up.

Seven new references, three distinct watch heads, and a complete rethink of case architecture later, the Planet Ocean has emerged leaner and more confident, without losing its reputation as one of OMEGA’s most serious tool watches. And perhaps unsurprisingly, it’s now found its way onto the wrists of some seriously famous personalities.

Leading-Man Energy

OMEGA didn’t just cast Hollywood actor Glen Powell in its Planet Ocean campaign it centered the story around him. Known for bouncing effortlessly between action, drama, comedy, and romance, Glen embodies exactly what this new Planet Ocean is trying to be: versatile, modern, and undeniably charismatic. He is seen wearing the Planet Ocean in OMEGA’s signature orange- a colour that’s been synonymous with the collection since its earliest days. It helps the watch feel bold without being flashy. The sharper case lines, more pronounced crown guards, and the removal of the manual helium-release crown give the watch a cleaner, more confident profile.

Glen represents the powerful versatility of the new Planet Ocean which provides style and function both on land and at sea. Speaking in Miami, he said, “With OMEGA, I always get a sense of their past, and a significant presence that has rolled through history. The brand's diving heritage is something special and you can feel it in the Planet Ocean. There's a modern look to the new watches, but at the same time, you know there's an immense legacy behind it.” Glen’s comment about feeling OMEGA’s legacy the moment you put the watch on feels spot on. This Planet Ocean may look modern, but there’s an immense history quietly ticking away beneath the surface.

Korean actor Park Bo-gum doesn’t do loud. Whether it’s his critically acclaimed performances in Reply 1988 and Love in the Moonlight, or his recent physically demanding roles, his appeal has always been rooted in restraint, depth, and control. So it feels entirely on-brand that he’s now an OMEGA Brand Ambassador. “Experiencing OMEGA timepieces up close and learning about the brand's history and craftsmanship left a deep impression on me. It is a great honour to be appointed as an ambassador and to share OMEGA's philosophy and values with the world,” he shares.

Much like Park himself, the new Planet Ocean doesn’t scream for attention, it earns it. The case has been slimmed down dramatically to 13.79 mm, a big shift from the previous generation’s chunkier proportions. A flat sapphire crystal and titanium caseback help achieve a cleaner, more refined silhouette, while sharper lugs and a compact 42 mm diameter give the watch a sculpted, contemporary presence. When Park speaks about being impressed by OMEGA’s craftsmanship and history, it’s easy to see the parallel. This is a Planet Ocean that has grown up; confident, composed and effortlessly cool.

If there’s one ambassador who cuts straight to the point, it’s Wei Daxun. His reaction to the new Planet Ocean was immediate and telling. Courage. Determination. Exploration. These aren’t abstract concepts here; they’re baked into the watch’s DNA. Water resistance remains a formidable 600 metres, a specification that continues to separate the Planet Ocean from the rest of the Seamaster family. Inside, the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8912 quietly does the heavy lifting, delivering a 60-hour power reserve, METAS certification, magnetic resistance, and OMEGA’s Co-Axial escapement. This is a watch that doesn’t just look capable, it is capable. For someone like Wei who is drawn to strength and purpose, the Planet Ocean makes a convincing case. “The new Planet Ocean captivated me at first sight—not only for its extraordinary water-resistance but also for its design, which conveys courage, determination, and exploration. I truly love it,” comments Wei.

Born by the Sea, Naturally Drawn to It

For Song Weilong, the connection is personal. Growing up by the sea with a love for diving, his admiration for OMEGA’s dive watches feels instinctive rather than aspirational. The Planet Ocean wears its underwater credentials proudly. Super-LumiNova X1 ensures exceptional legibility, with blue-glowing hour markers and a green-glowing minute hand and dive bezel a clever colour split that makes perfect sense once you’re below the surface. Matte black dials, ceramic bezels, and redesigned Arabic numerals keep things crisp and readable, without sacrificing character. Song’s appreciation for OMEGA’s long diving history fits neatly here.

The new fourth generation blends the heritage of the Seamaster family with contemporary design

Friend of the Brand Jonathan Bailey travelled to Australia to join OMEGA in celebrating the fourth-generation Planet Ocean collection. Set along the shores of South Coogee at a private coastal residence, the location reflected the collection’s connection to the sea. With ocean vistas and brutalist architecture, the venue echoed the redesigned angles of OMEGA’s new Planet Ocean timepieces. The new fourth generation blends the heritage of the Seamaster family with contemporary design, while preserving the orange accents that have defined the collection since 2005.

When an actor says a watch is their daily wear, it carries a different kind of weight. For Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the Seamaster isn’t a campaign accessory it’s a constant. The new Planet Ocean backs that claim with serious wearability upgrades. The redesigned bracelet features slimmer flat links that integrate smoothly into the case, tapering elegantly from 21 mm to 16.5 mm. Six points of micro-adjustment and a diver extension make it easy to live with, whether you’re on set, travelling, or just heading out for the day. Despite its professional dive specs, the Planet Ocean never feels excessive. Instead, it feels reassuring the kind of watch you forget you’re wearing until you catch it in the light.

Why the Planet Ocean Makes Perfect Sense for India

What makes the new Planet Ocean even more interesting is how naturally it fits into the Indian watch conversation. The collection arrived in India just a month after its global release a strong statement about the market’s growing importance. Priced at ₹8,22,300 on a rubber strap and ₹8,83,600 on a steel bracelet, the Planet Ocean speaks to Indian watch lovers who appreciate substance over spectacle. You may never test its 600-metre water resistance, but you will appreciate its slimmer proportions, rock-solid movement, and ability to transition seamlessly from casual to formal.

For Indian collectors who want a GADA watch, one that can do almost everything without shouting about it the Planet Ocean hits a sweet spot. It’s dramatic when you want it to be, dependable when you need it, and quietly confident every single day.
