In Olympic sports, tiny margins of victory come down to one-hundredths of a second. The difference between winning gold or silver can be a single millisecond. This is why accuracy in timekeeping matters so much. As the saying goes, "Ask any Olympic silver medalist the importance of a millisecond." This is where Omega makes a key difference with our expert timing technology and precision. We bring high-accuracy timekeeping to the competition to ensure the closest races have clear outcomes.

In the Olympics

For several decades, OMEGA has been the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games. You know their iconic brand and you've seen their watches on the wrists of Olympic athletes, but, are you acquainted with the complete narrative that underlies their collaboration with the Olympics? As one of the most prestigious watch brands in the world, OMEGA takes immense pride in its role as the official Olympic timekeeper. Since 1932, they have been trusted to provide cutting-edge timekeeping technology to precisely measure Olympic athletic performances.

OMEGA's Rich History as Official Olympic Games Timekeeper

OMEGA has been the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932, an incredible legacy spanning nearly 100 years - the first brand ever called upon to time every event at the Olympic Games. It all began at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics.

Using 30 high-precision chronographs, they timed events down to 1/10th of a second. This pioneering role established OMEGA as the premier Olympic timekeeper and in 1948, the Seamaster debuted as the official timekeeper's watch. This prestigious role has endured for over several years, through 30 Olympic Games.

OMEGA's Cutting-Edge Timekeeping Technology for the Olympic Games

OMEGA has introduced groundbreaking technologies for timekeeping at the Olympic Games. At the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, OMEGA debuted the first Olympic timekeeping system that could measure times to the nearest 100th of a second.

In 1948, OMEGA developed the Photoelectric Cell for the London Olympics which could automatically trigger timing when runners crossed the finish line. This removed the need for officials to manually start and stop timers.
