Oris Walks Away With A Bronze : The Big Crown Pointer Date

The Big Crown goes bronze. Did you know that the Big Crown Pointer Date is Oris's longest-serving design, a cult watch that has been in continuous production since 1938. It is an Oris signature and a byword for timeless watch design, with its large crown, red crescent-tipped pointer date hand, and fluted bezel. The style is unmistakably retro, yet it continues to be popular today.
Today, almost 80 years later, Oris is presenting it in complete bronze for the first time, with a solid bronze case, bezel, crown, articulated bracelet and clasp, and four dial colour options - green, brown, bordeaux, and blue.
It's not the first time it's been painted in bronze, but it's the first time a full bronze Big Crown Pointer Date has appeared. We've seen it previously on the 80th Anniversary Limited Edition, as well as in a smaller 36mm size, but always with a leather strap. The case comes in a variety of sizes, but this one is 40mm broad and 12mm tall. The large crown and fluted bezel are characteristic components of the bronze case.
Oris' in-house team of engineers had to do extensive research and development to create a bracelet with this level of intricacy in bronze, a more malleable material than steel. The cathedral-shaped hour and minute hands, as well as the Arabic numerals, are done in Super-LumiNova. The date is indicated by the numbers 1 through 31 on the dial's outer edge. The signature red-tipped crescent date hand makes it easy to read.

The multi-link bracelet complements the watch well, adding to the steampunk vibe. It will be part of the main series and will be available starting January for CHF 2,000 (approx INR 1,61,227) on the leather strap and CHF 2,400 (approx INR 1,93,473) on the bronze multi-link bracelet. We surely wouldn’t mind walking away with this bronze!
