TAG Heuer has always been associated with the world of motor racing. Dropping various limited edition timepieces, one can only wonder what’s next? The new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 - Porsche Edition is a luxury connected timepiece that was designed in collaboration with Porsche. It takes design cues from the Porsche Taycan collection, an all-electric sports car, and includes special Wear OS features for Porsche owners, such as the ability to view vehicle data on the watch's face.

TAG Heuer X Porsche

This timepiece follows 2021's introduction of the TAG Heuer x Porsche Carrera Chronograph, which paid tribute to the two brands' shared motor racing legacy and marked the beginning of a global partnership between them. Porsche owners and admirers can now make use of TAG Heuer's growing ecosystem of special sports, wellness apps, and exquisite watch faces with the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 -Porsche Edition, which has been available since 2015.

Speeding into the details

The external color of the classic electric Taycan is frozen blue, and that color is echoed in both the watch and the software. The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 - Porsche Edition comes with a unique watch face that can only be accessed by those who purchase the limited-edition smartwatch from Porsche. The watch's face was modeled by electronic components and racing circuits to create a dynamic visual effect that unites the high-tech aesthetic of TAG Heuer timepieces and the sporty sophistication of Porsche automobiles.

The watch features complexities that show data from compatible Porsche models, like battery life and mileage, right on the watch face.

Frédéric Arnault, CEO of TAG Heuer says, “For both TAG Heuer and Porsche, the thrill of driving is part of our heritage, and this watch celebrates the fearless spirit of both Maisons - as well as highlights the sustainable innovation of the Taycan. This watch evokes many of the passions we share - high performance, technological innovation, and our love for unique and unmatched products.”

Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG, says, “This product highlights the natural synergy of our two brands: both fearless and disruptive in their respective fields, and both devoted to delivering unparalleled experiences to our customers. Our brands have led the way in embracing new technologies: just as TAG Heuer has led the luxury watch world in terms of embracing smartwatch technology, so Porsche’s sports cars such as the all-electric Taycan innovate in their field.”

All about the metallic blue tones

The watch has a massive 45 mm case in black titanium, with details in the characteristic frozen blue metallic tone seen on the Porsche blue Taycan.

The case is made of sandblasted black titanium, giving the watch a lightweight, athletic feel, while the bezel is made of black ceramic that has been polished, with a special scale running from zero to 400 to indicate the speed of a Porsche automobile.

TAG Heuer's shield in frozen blue lacquer stands out against the black steel crown and rubber bezel, and that same blue is used on the pushers. The number 100 and the name Porsche are both accentuated in icy blue at the bezel's top and bottom, respectively. Around the LED heart rate sensor utilized by the watch's fitness capabilities is the inscription "TAG Heuer x Porsche" etched into the titanium case back.

The strap of the watch was designed to look like the dashboards of Porsches. It is constructed of carbon-like black calfskin and is stitched with blue to match the interior leather.

The rubber material used for the watch band makes it ideal for active use. A spare black rubber band, as is standard with TAG Heuer Connected timepieces, is included in the packaging.

Elegant and functional, the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 - Porsche Edition watch is part of the next generation of TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4.

The crown is spacious and protrudes from the watch face, allowing for simple fingertip control of apps while on the go. The mechanical feel of the pushers is a nod to TAG Heuer's 162 years of experience creating luxury timepieces.

The watch, which runs on a modified version of Google's Wear OS system, features a number of unique timers as well as sports and wellness apps that showcase TAG Heuer's experience in sports timing, including motorsports.

The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 - Porsche Edition also has a cutting-edge range of fifitness features, including guided workouts built into the TAG Heuer Sport app on the watch. The watch shows off technical improvements across the board compared to the previous generations of TAG Heuer Connected watches, with a brighter screen, better contrast, and a battery life is 30% longer than previous models. Users will enjoy a full day’s battery life from each charge with moderate use. Transferring data from and to the watch via a paired iOS or Android app is also faster, thanks to Bluetooth 5.0.

'Circuit' is a custom watch dial made just for the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 - Porsche Edition. Previous TAG Heuer Connected watches featured a Porsche watch face, which was a tremendous hit with buyers.

Frozen blue accents bring out the design of the new 'Circuit' watch face, which takes design cues from both electrical circuitry (a homage to the electric Taycan) and racing circuits.

Information from the watch, such as a step counter or heart rate, or data from a connected Porsche vehicle can be shown on the watch's three chronograph-style complications. Anyone with one of the aforementioned Porsche models may sync their watch to their vehicle and get real-time updates in the form of "complications" on their wrist.

Users need to use the in-house developed Wear OS My Porsche software on their watch to establish a connection between the two devices. For starters, you can choose from four different complications. The first one is compatible with both the all-electric Porsche model and the plug-in hybrid variant, displaying the remaining battery life of the vehicle.

The second presents data related to the 'car autonomy' of the vehicle, such as the number of remaining kilometers before the fuel or battery supply is depleted. The third is a shortcut to the Wear OS My Porsche app which enables users to quickly control their vehicle heating and air conditioning.

The final confounding factor reveals the overall mileage covered by the automobile. Porsche ID, a Porsche Connect subscription, and the My Porsche app on the user's phone and watch are required for us.

This watch will be available from September 2022 and is priced at INR 2,34,000.
