Don’t we all refer to our favourite actors by their nicknames? Most are lovingly known as Duggu (Hrithik Roshan), Bebo (Kareena Kapoor), Mimi (Priyanka Chopra), Lolo (Karisma Kapoor), KJO (Karan Johar) and Alia Bhatt as, “Aloo.’ Nicknames are everlasting terms of endearment bestowed with love, and vary from being really cute to very strange. Most often, starting out as an embarrassment and eventually turning into a habit. There comes a time, when a full name sounds offensive or even cold. Be it a person, watch, soft toy, or even a digital gadget. They all get a phantom, egghead, firecracker, butterfingers, monkey, bunny, etc.

Similarly, luxury watches have impressive nicknames too. Shocked much, well don’t be!

Let’s unravel the nicknames of a few popular luxury watches:

  1. Haven’t we all dreamed of being a superhero? Rolex gives us the opportunity to be a powerful one. Straight from Gotham city, and on to your wrist, we have “Batman”. The Rolex GMT Master II (Ref. 1167110BLNR) proudly flaunts a two-tone, blue-black bezel with a black dial. This mighty watch is a true representation of Batman working at night, as the colours sure reflect the same. The Rolex Batman is a highly coveted piece to own.

This watch exudes strength and durability much like the Hulk and can make anyone feel strong enough to take on the world.

  1. The Rolex GMT Master II (Ref. 126711CHNR) is affectionately called the Root Beer as it resembles a popular non-alcoholic drink consumed commonly in the US and Canada. This spectacular timepiece reveals legendary craftsmanship and outstanding design from Rolex. The nickname is an inimitable amalgamation of the brown and black bezel with details in Rolex’s own alloy Rolesor Everose.

  1. Shunbun (Grand Seiko Spring Drive) enjoys a nickname that captures a very treasured moment in the Japanese seasonal calendar. During the spring season, the dance of the floating pink blossoms on the water signifies the pink dial in the “Shunbun”. This timepiece symbolises sophistication, modern technology and high-precision.

  1. Seiko watches also get nicknames from sea creatures. The next one being the famous “Seiko Turtle”. The Prospex Save The Ocean King Turtle - SRPF77K1 was named so because the case has a distinctive resemblance with the shell of a turtle.

  1. The Prospex Save The Ocean King Samurai, is a watch that looks as if it were sliced by a Japanese Samurai sword, and hence the name. The angular shape, the colours that depict the sunlight refraction and the patterns that symbolise the waves as seen from under the sea, makes this name special for the Seiko brand.

  1. Imagine a watch being lovingly called the “Fried Egg”. The mere size of the Breitling Navitimer (Ref816) and the bi-compax chronograph layout, date window at 6 with orange accents is a definite attention grab. The bright orange second hand when seen as a whole reminds us of a fried egg. The curved domed glass with a large diameter further facilitates the signature nickname.

  1. The “Bronzo”, as the name suggests has everything to do with the colour bronze. It signifies solidity and sturdiness. It is famously known for its resistance to the corrosive action of sea water. This watch was created in 2011 as a special edition line with only 1000 pieces. And just like wine, the bronze case also ages into a beautiful colour which makes it more appealing as a prized possession.
