Tissot Expresses Its Summer Spirit With Sideral: A Modern Reinterpretation Of Its 70s Classic

Dating back to the late 1960s and exhibiting the then quirky allure of the brand, the original Tissot Sideral was a cool watch like none other. A couple of years later after its launch in 1969, an even groovier version of the original was released as the Sideral S, a timepiece that dared to be different with its yellow rubber strap and an ingenious fastening system.
Fast forward to 2023, the funky timepiece makes a return with an honest aesthetic reinterpretation of the original as Tissot introduces the new Sideral collection. The then novel material in the vintage Sideral - Fibreglass gets replaced with forged carbon fibre for the new launches while retaining the sporty case shape and vivid colors for the straps.
Tissot Sideral: A Bold Reinterpretation Of An Iconic Timepiece
A trio of highly colorful editions announces the comeback of the barrel-shaped watch which retains the signature elements from the retro timepiece prominent for its “Super Resistance”. While the 70’s aesthetic resonates with the voguish collector community of today, Tissot transports us to a retro-chic indulgence with this watch.
The novelty in the choice of materials continues with the latest Tissot Sideral as the watch is available in a 41mm forged carbon fibre case. A choice of natural pattern and hue of carbon is retained in the black and grey as well as black and yellow model variants while the black and blue version captivates with its quirky case showcasing streaks of blue.
Like the materials, the mechanics too shine brightly here as a heavily modified ETA 2824 presented as the Tissot Powermatic 80 Nivachron powers this timepiece to an impressive autonomy of 80 hours thanks to the ingenious frequency tweaks and a beefed-up mainspring. Staying on the business side of the timepiece, we now get a first-of-its-kind semi-skeletonised rotor decorated with the letters ‘Tissot 1853’.
Faithful In The Looks And Funkier In Character
The chic vibes are reminiscent of the 70s art and design influence which gave the world of watchmaking timepieces kike the AP Royal Oak, Tag Heuer Monaco, Patek Philippe Nautilus, IWC Da Vinci, or the Piaget Polo resonate in the Tissot Sideral as well.
Much of the design, colors, and ergonomics of the original Sideral S are retained in the new models which blend 1970s groovy design hallmarks with modern-day watchmaking techniques. A predominantly black dial features a blue, grey, or yellow railway-style minute track. A green-red regatta timer countdown track occurs between the noon and 2 o’clock positions. This feature used to time the starting countdown of a yacht race fits well within the overall aquatic construction of the timepiece which comes with an impressive 300 m or 30 bar of water resistance and is fitted with a unidirectional Black PVD watersports look bezel.
A vivid orchestration of captivating hues takes place in the dark on the dial which features multi-colored luminescent hour and minute markers as well as hands and the regatta countdown using super-luminova. The funkiness stakes of the watch are ramped up even higher with the sporty colorful straps designed with an ingenious perforated rubber material featuring quick-release sprig bars. A dual attachment design on both ends with studs intended to be fitted with the perforations in the strap itself achieve a secure fit and are inspired by the original Sideral S which was available with a yellow strap option.

The market launch for the three references in the Tissot Sideral collection is expected to be in July 2023 at a price point of around ₹90,000.00.
