Twinkling Innovation: URWERK Unveils The Diamond-Studded UR-100V Stardust - Geneva Watch Days 2023
Geneva-based independent watchmaker URWERK has unveiled its latest haute horlogerie creation - the UR-100V Stardust, a dazzling twist on their UR-100 line at Geneva Watch Days 2023. This avant-garde timepiece contains over 400 VVS1 diamonds totaling nearly 2 carats, set in an intricate "snow setting" across the steel case.
As URWERK's Artistic Director Martin Frei describes, "We wanted a setting reminiscent of the starry heavens, with nothing at all uniform, more like ordered chaos." The diamonds vary in size and are meticulously placed in a fluid, mosaic style that mimics the randomness of the night sky. Its name, "Stardust," refers to the ubiquitous presence of stars in the raw materials that compose the watch.
Beneath the diamond-encrusted case lies URWERK's signature wandering hour satellite complication, with the minutes scale on the upper railway track studded with 36 diamonds. The self-winding UR 12.02 movement provides 48 hours of power reserve. Like others in the 100 collection, the UR-100V Stardust features twin distance meters on the satellite carrier, measuring km travelled at the Equator and by Earth orbit.
The UR-100V Stardust comes on a Baltimore blue fabric strap with a diamond-set steel pin buckle. Only 10 pieces per year will be produced. Co-founder Felix Baumgartner calls it "a true watchmaker's promise" that is bound to make eyes twinkle. Once again, URWERK brings innovative design and fine craftsmanship to modern horology with a celestial sparkle.
