The URWERK UR-101 T-Rex Is Here to Rule Your Wrist
Brace yourself—the latest addition to the T-Rex lineage has arrived, and it’s here to make an impact. With its bronze exterior, textured surfaces, and commanding presence, this is not a watch that simply exists; it demands interaction.
The newly reimagined UR-101 has undergone a radical transformation, adorned with intricate guilloché engravings that extend beyond the dial and across its bezel, case sides, and lugs. No longer confined beneath a protective crystal, these raw, tactile textures invite touch, offering an experience as bold as its design. The UR-101 T-Rex is not just an evolution; it’s a statement, and at URWERK, we are always ready for the challenge.

The UR-101 is the third model in URWERK’s collection to receive the T-Rex treatment. Its smooth, curved form was the perfect canvas for this transformation, allowing the signature guilloché pattern to flow seamlessly across the case. The engraved lines begin at the crown and extend in a subtle rise, culminating in a dramatic curvature at the back. The result is a visually dynamic and deeply textured aesthetic. Limited to just 100 pieces, this edition of the UR-101 combines ergonomic excellence with sculptural artistry.
Designed to Fit, Engineered to Stand Out
Measuring 41mm in diameter and 11.86mm at its highest point, the UR-101 T-Rex is about more than just dimensions—it’s about feel. The curvature of the case allows it to nestle naturally on the wrist, settling comfortably between the bones. Its asymmetrical design reveals itself in wear, with a slight tilt that positions the display optimally for the wearer. The addition of a crown puller, a nod to the original UR-101, enhances its distinctive form while ensuring ease of use.
The bronze case undergoes a meticulous finishing process: guilloché engraving, controlled oxidation, and final brushing. Over time, the bronze will develop a deeper patina, darkening but never turning green. The engraved scales, case sides, and integrated lugs will also evolve, adding to the watch’s individuality.

This signature engraving first debuted in 2016 on the UR-105 T-Rex and later on the UR-100 T-Rex. "It’s a traditional guilloché technique," says Frei. "But instead of limiting it to the dial, we applied it to the entire case. The result is something that feels raw and organic—something you want to touch, to experience." This finishing technique, often overlooked in high-complication watchmaking, is a crucial element of URWERK’s philosophy.
The Beating Heart
The UR-101 T-Rex is a modern interpretation of one of URWERK’s earliest creations, returning to the brand’s roots while pushing its technical expertise forward. The time is displayed via two rotating satellites, a 180-degree layout, and a solid, snailed carrousel—an evolution of URWERK’s signature wandering hours complication.

Master watchmaker and URWERK co-founder Felix Baumgartner reflects on the brand’s origins: "From the start, our goal was to create a satellite display. The challenge was making a carrousel nearly 150 times heavier than conventional watch hands move with perfect synchronicity. With the help of my mentor, Svend Andersen, we developed a Maltese cross mechanism to achieve it. That was just the beginning of our journey."
URWERK’s creations are the result of a dynamic interplay between artistic vision and horological engineering. Drawing inspiration from history, science fiction, and mechanical artistry, the brand’s timepieces reflect a fusion of past and future. From the intricate engravings reminiscent of ancient craftsmanship to the cutting-edge satellite time display, the UR-101 T-Rex embodies this unique philosophy. URWERK doesn’t just measure time—it reshapes it, giving it form, texture, and presence. And with the UR-101 T-Rex, time doesn’t just tick; it roars.
