Watches And Wonders 2025: Laurent Ferrier Includes A Dash of Speed With A Touch of Serenity On The Classic Auto Horizon
While a watch can be many things, did you ever think it could also help you find your centre? With the Laurent Ferrier Classic Auto Horizon this is now possible. Once again blending high-octane performance with timeless elegance, The Classic Auto Horizon makes its grand entrance at Watches and Wonders 2025 with a fresh take on a beloved model. Previously released as a Série Atelier piece with a copper-toned dial, this beauty now joins the brand’s permanent collection this time dressed in a mesmerizing Horizon Blue.
A Watch That Celebrates Motion
Taking its name from the renowned Auto calibre already celebrated in the Sport Auto the Classic Auto Horizon is a nod to both the thrill of motor racing and the sophistication of a classically styled automatic timepiece. At its heart beats the LF 270.01 self-winding movement, a micro-rotor-powered mechanism built for precision and durability. And with the added date function, it’s more than just a collector’s piece—it’s perfect for daily wear.

Inspired by the smooth curves of 19th-century pocket watches, the 40mm stainless steel case embodies Laurent Ferrier’s signature design ethos: refined, enduring, and effortlessly elegant. Its rounded pebble-like shape not only pays homage to tradition but also ensures a supremely comfortable fit on the wrist. And inside? The LF 270.01 calibre, originally designed for sportier timepieces, guarantees unwavering performance.
A Horizon in Every Light
The dial is where the magic happens. Laurent Ferrier has long drawn inspiration from nature, and the new Horizon Blue dial is a testament to that. Soft and soothing, the colour evokes a sense of escape like staring into the endless sky or the tranquil sea. Depending on the light, subtle hints of purple emerge, adding depth and an element of surprise much like the mischievous glint often seen in Ferrier’s own eye.

Crafted using a silver galvanic base and a layer of translucent blue lacquer, the dial exhibits a stunning play of textures. A vertical satin-brushed center symbolizes freedom and movement, while the circular satin-brushed minute track frames the composition with precision. The date window, a signature of both the Sport and Classic Auto collections, features a boldly sloped aperture with a fine dark blue outline, ensuring easy legibility without disrupting the dial’s harmony.
The Classic Auto Horizon wouldn’t be complete without its Assegai spear hands, crafted in stamped white gold for a bold yet refined look. A matching crosshair at the center adds symmetry, while the recessed small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock, featuring a snailed finish and baton-shaped hand, delivers an extra layer of sophistication. Completing the dial’s understated elegance are the white gold drop-shaped indices, balancing minimalism with visual impact.

First introduced in the Sport Auto, the LF 270.01 calibre is a testament to Laurent Ferrier’s mechanical expertise. This self-winding movement features a Swiss lever escapement and a unidirectional ball-bearing mounted micro-rotor, optimizing resistance to shocks and vibrations. The rotor itself crafted in 950 platinum is positioned between the main plate and rotor bridge, maximizing stability and efficiency. When fully wound, expect a 72-hour power reserve, making it as reliable as it is refined.
A Finishing Touch of Artistry
Flip the watch over, and the exhibition sapphire crystal case back reveals a movement finished to perfection. The micro-rotor, inspired by the FBN229.01 calibre, features an intricate feather motif engraving, complementing the bird beak-shaped automatic bridge. The platinum rotor is adorned with chevron markings, subtly indicating the winding direction.

Each LF 270.01 movement undergoes more than 139 manual finishing operations, ensuring that every detail—down to the softened angles and mirror-polished surfaces—is executed with precision. The weight bridge alone is finished using gentian wood and diamantine, giving it a high-polish sheen. And, of course, the movement is completed with rhodium-plated Côtes de Genève across its bridges, making the back of the watch just as mesmerizing as the front.
The Classic Auto Horizon bridges the gap between sport and sophistication, between mindfulness and hustle. Whether you’re drawn to its serene blue dial, its mechanical prowess, or its exquisite finishing, one thing is certain: this timepiece will leave a lasting impression.
