At the Watches and Wonders 2025, Patek Philippe offers a taste of its ultra haute horology prowess by introducing the Quadruple Complication Ref. 5308G-001. This timepiece with a duo of patented innovations is a reinvention of the timepiece which originally debuted at the Watch Art Grand Exhibition Tokyo 2023. The minute-repeater, split-seconds chronograph and instantaneous perpetual calendar watch now makes a debut in Patek Philippe’s collection with a white gold regular-production version. This 42mm timepiece packs in serious complications with optimized energy management mechanisms.

An Exceptionally Complicated Patek Philippe

Hefty in complication and in proportions as well, the Patek Philippe Quadruple Complication Ref. 5308G-001 treats the connoisseurs with a minute-repeater function with chime on two classic gongs, split-seconds chronograph and an instantaneous perpetual calendar. Measuring 42mm in diameter and 17.71 mm thick, the new Patek Philippe grand complication execution features the new R CHR 27 PS QI caliber, derived from Triple Complication Reference 5208, launched in 2011. Its 799 components include a multitude of innovative mechanics including two new patents for optimizing energy management. These include an anti-backlash wheel preventing chronograph friction at the clutch and an isolation system that eliminates energy consumption of the split-seconds mechanism when it is stopped thereby enhancing energy efficiency. Its instantaneous perpetual calendar ensures a truly instant shift with the calendar disks that pass in 30 milliseconds over the three day-date-month apertures which have been elegantly arranged along an arc.

An Elegant Exhibit of Complex Horology

Dressed in a white gold case with a sapphire display caseback, the Patek Philippe Quadruple Complication Ref. 5308G-001 despite its chunky proportions feels every bit elegant. Its concave bezel and skeletonized lugs intend to serve a bit of sleek sporty profile. The mirror polished case gets a dazzling feature of a sunburst ice blue dial. Excelling in legibility as well as architecture, the watch face features elegantly positioned three day-date-month apertures arranged along an arc and sub registers for the split-seconds chronograph. In regards to the dial furniture, Patek Philippe has given the Quadruple Complication Ref. 5308G-001 launched at Watches and Wonders 2025 faceted and polished hour indexes, calendar aperture frames as well as the time-telling dauphine hands in a deeper hue of blue to perfectly complement the dial.

The watch gets paired with an alligator leather strap with square scales in a shiny navy blue color. A white gold patented triple-blade fold-over clasp secures the timepiece on your wrist. The case, although not water resistant, is humidity- and dust-protected.
Its R CHR 27 PS QI caliber beats at 21,600 semi-oscillations/hour and gets a maximum autonomy of 48 hours and is wound with a platinum off-center micro rotor.

Final Thoughts

About the new timepiece, Patek Philippe expresses that, “The addition of a particularly energy-consuming split-seconds mechanism represented a real challenge for engineers.” They succeeded in driving a bunch of energy hefty complications from its main barrel while optimizing the mechanics for greater efficiency owing to two patented innovations. The highly complex and impressively elegant Patek Philippe Quadruple Complication Ref. 5308G-001 introduced at Watches and Wonders 2025 is a classical exhibit of the Maison’s superfluities prowess in manufacturing watches with a wonderful complication amalgam.
