Rolex presents a novel creative twist with these iterations of the Day-Date 36.

At 2023's Watches and Wonders, the brand will debut a new take on an iconic model. This new offering from Rolex will be cause for joyful celebration despite the show's promise to keep you on your toes. The watch adds a dash of improvisation to the wearer's day by reflecting their ever-changing emotional state in the form of a different expression every day.

These timepieces are made of 18 karat yellow, white, or Everose gold and feature a custom-designed face. The arc doesn't indicate the day of the week, but rather the time of day. The English words "Happy," "Eternity," "Gratitude," "Peace," "Faith," "Love," and "Hope" are displayed in the aperture at 12 o'clock. The date is replaced by one of 31 unique emojis every day in the window at 3 o'clock.

The dial's striking hues and elaborate design are the results of a painstaking champlevé enamelling process. The design is awe-inspiring via a game of jigsaw. Pieces of turquoise blue, red, fuchsia, orange, green, and yellow fit together on a background of a single colour to form moments that matter most in life. Ten baguette-cut sapphires in a rainbow of colours mark the hours, with turquoise blue marking the time on the 18 ct yellow gold and 18 ct white gold models and orange marking the time on the 18 ct Everose gold timepiece.

Powered by the cutting-edge calibre 3255 movement, the latest iterations of the Day-Date 36 show not only the time of day but also a unique keyword for each day of the week and an emoji for each day of the month. The Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36, like all Rolex watches, is certified as a Superlative Chronometer, guaranteeing superior performance while worn.

Rolex claims exclusivity

In addition to the date, the Day-Date displays the full day of the week in an arc-shaped window at 12 o'clock on the dial, a technological first when the watch was introduced in 1956. There are 26 language options for the day of the week. All Day-Date watches are crafted from one of four precious metals: 18 ct yellow, white, or Everose gold; 950 platinum; or zirconium.

The Day-Date is a classic timepiece that has been worn by illustrious people from all walks of life, including heads of state, film directors, and other creative types, earning it the nickname "presidents' watch" due to its iconic President bracelet.

The latest iterations of the Day-Date 36 feature an Oyster case that is 36 mm in diameter and is guaranteed to be waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet). The standard case of these variants is made of solid 18-carat gold in your choice of yellow, white, or Everose.

Fine fluting outlines the case back, which is hermetically screwed down so that only Rolex watchmakers can access the movement. With a double-sealed system, the Twinlock winding crown is completely submersible.

The crystal is made of sapphire and has an anti-reflective coating; the Cyclops lens is located at 3 o'clock. The Oyster case is watertight, providing maximum security for the inside movement.

Released in 2015 and fitted on this model for the first time in 2019, Rolex's calibre 3255 is at the heart of the new Day-Date 36. This self-winding mechanical movement is a technological masterpiece, offering unmatched accuracy, power reserve, ease of use, and dependability.

The Chronergy escapement, featured in the Calibre 3255, is a patented innovation that significantly reduces power consumption without sacrificing reliability. This escapement, constructed of nickel-phosphorus, can withstand high magnetic fields without being affected. Rolex uses a blue Parachrom hairspring, a paramagnetic alloy, in their movements. Excellent facial support can be found in the hairspring's high resistance to shocks and temperature swings. The Rolex overcoil guarantees the calibre's consistency in any orientation. The movement's shock resistance is improved by having the oscillator mounted on Rolex's patented high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers. An improved ball bearing has been added to the swinging weight.

The Calibre 3255 features an automatic winding mechanism with a Perpetual rotor. The superior efficiency of the escapement and the barrel design of calibre 3255 allow for a power reserve of about 70 hours.

The new Day-Date 36 models with the turquoise blue puzzle-motif dial and the orange puzzle-motif dial are both available on a President bracelet made of 18-carat yellow or white gold. This three-piece link bracelet is still reserved solely for the Day-Date and precious metal versions of the Datejust; it was originally designed for the 1956 debut of the prestigious Oyster Perpetual Day-Date.

To ensure comfort and durability, Rolex incorporated their patented ceramic inserts, created specifically for the President bracelet, into the links of the bracelet. It’s time for a happy dance!
