Long before dive watches became lifestyle statements and desk-diving accessories, Favre Leuba was already building serious underwater instruments. Founded in 1737 and recognised as the second-oldest Swiss watch brand in the world, the maison built its reputation on rugged, purpose-driven watchmaking made for explorers, mountaineers and adventurers. Its philosophy, “Conquering Frontiers Since 1737,” was never just marketing language. It was the blueprint.

Favre Leuba’s recent revival has felt far more focused on evolution than replication

That spirit became particularly evident in 1964 with the launch of the Deep Blue, a robust dive watch that would eventually become the foundation of the modern Deep Raider collection. While many heritage brands today lean heavily on nostalgia, Favre Leuba’s recent revival has felt far more focused on evolution than replication. Since its global relaunch in 2024, the brand has steadily rebuilt its universe with collections like Chief, Sea Sky and Harpoon, all while reintroducing the Deep Raider as a contemporary interpretation of its underwater legacy.

Enter The Deep Raider Power Reserve

Now, the story continues with the new Deep Raider Power Reserve. A watch that doesn’t radically reinvent the collection, but instead deepens it mechanically and visually. At first glance, the Deep Raider Power Reserve retains everything that makes the collection appealing. The proportions remain sharp and wearable at 40mm, the construction purposeful, and the overall design refreshingly free from unnecessary theatrics. This is still very much a professional dive watch at heart, complete with 300 metres of water resistance, a screw-in crown and a unidirectional ceramic bezel with a luminous marker at 12 o’clock. But this latest addition introduces a new layer of interaction through its power reserve complication, giving the wearer a more tactile connection to the movement inside.

The dial is where the watch truly comes alive. Favre Leuba has leaned into texture and depth without compromising legibility something dive watches often struggle to balance. A sunray finish radiates outward from the centre, catching light dynamically as the watch moves. The small seconds counter at 9 o’clock and the power reserve display at 6 o’clock feature snailed finishing, creating subtle contrast against the main dial surface. Meanwhile, the triple-figure date aperture at 3 o’clock introduces an unusual vertical arc display that immediately catches the eye without overwhelming the symmetry of the design.

Built Like A Proper Dive Watch

Each element is framed with raised metallic surrounds, adding dimension and giving the dial a more architectural feel. The applied rhodium-plated indexes and polished hands are filled with Super-LumiNova® C1 X1 for strong low-light visibility, reinforcing the Deep Raider’s tool-watch credentials. Then there are the colours. Favre Leuba clearly understands that modern collectors want variety without gimmicks. The Deep Raider Power Reserve is available in white, black, green, blue and ice blue the latter bringing a cooler, more contemporary energy to the collection. It feels sporty, clean and distinctly modern without trying too hard.

The case construction follows the same philosophy. Brushed and polished surfaces alternate across the stainless steel body, while tapered lugs and polished chamfers soften what is otherwise a robust diving instrument. At 12.59mm thick, the watch maintains a reassuring presence on the wrist without becoming bulky.

Protected by a curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, the watch is water-resistant to 300 metres thanks to its screw-in crown, designed with a knurled texture for secure operation even in wet conditions. The unidirectional rotating bezel features a ceramic insert and a luminous pip at 12 o’clock for precise underwater timing.

The integrated steel bracelet, complete with brushed and polished links, also features a practical quick-change system that allows wearers to switch easily between bracelet and rubber strap configurations from the Deep Raider Renaissance collection. Turning the watch over reveals a closed caseback engraved with Favre Leuba’s historic emblem set within a wave-inspired motif, alongside the inscription: “Conquering Frontiers Since 1737.”

Mechanical Depth Without Excess

Inside beats the automatic FLP01 calibre, based on the reliable Sellita SW279-1 architecture. Operating at 4Hz with a 41-hour power reserve, the movement now puts its remaining energy on display through the new complication. It is not about excessive mechanical showmanship or unnecessary complexity. Instead, the power reserve feels practical and intuitive very much in line with Favre Leuba’s utilitarian DNA. The addition subtly changes the personality of the watch, making it feel more interactive while preserving the straightforward functionality expected from a professional dive piece.

This latest launch also feels significant because it signals a renewed focus on the Deep Raider family for 2026. After expanding the Chief collection last year and introducing more experimental Renaissance editions in malachite and meteorite dials, the brand now seems intent on reinforcing the Deep Raider as its modern cornerstone. “Rooted in our 1964 Deep Blue, the collection represents our commitment to purposeful, performance-driven watchmaking,” says Patrik Hoffmann. “The Power Reserve strengthens the Deep Raider collection by adding mechanical depth while preserving the robustness and clarity that define the Deep Raider today.”

The Final Word

And that really sums up the appeal of this watch. The Deep Raider Power Reserve does not chase vintage clichés or oversized luxury-sports trends. Instead, it focuses on clarity, utility and understated confidence qualities that increasingly stand out in a market crowded with louder designs and overcomplicated storytelling.

At CHF 2,500, it also positions itself competitively within the modern Swiss dive-watch landscape, offering legitimate heritage, practical functionality and thoughtful finishing without drifting into unattainable territory. For Favre Leuba, the Deep Raider Power Reserve is more than just another addition to the catalogue. It is another step in proving that one of Swiss watchmaking’s oldest names still knows exactly how to move forward.
