Few watches embody the perfect balance between function and design as effortlessly as the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso. Born in 1931 to meet the demands of polo-playing gentlemen in colonial India, the Reverso was a masterful response to a simple yet challenging brief a watch that could endure the rigours of the sport while remaining elegant enough for everyday wear. The ingenious swivelling case, protected under historical patent CH159982, not only shielded the dial from impact but also became a defining feature of what would evolve into one of the most recognisable silhouettes in watchmaking. Over nine decades later, its Art Deco geometry, refined lines, and infinite adaptability continue to inspire new expressions, this time in two new models that celebrate its enduring versatility: the Reverso Classic Monoface ‘Origin’ and the Reverso Classic Monoface Small Seconds.

From Sporting Roots to a Design Icon

While originally conceived for men, the Reverso swiftly transcended its sporting origins, finding favour among tastemakers of both genders. Its bold architecture and reversibility lent themselves naturally to reinterpretation, opening the door to countless variations over the years from functional tool watches to elegant dress pieces and even jewellery creations. Yet at its heart, the Reverso has always remained true to its Art Deco spirit a perfect synthesis of geometry, proportion, and timeless style.

The Reverso Classic Monoface ‘Origin’: A Feminine Tribute to 1931

Drawing inspiration from the earliest women’s Reverso models, the new Reverso Classic Monoface ‘Origin’ pays homage to the original Reverso Dame of 1931. With its refined 32.5 x 16.3 mm proportions, the watch was conceived especially for women who appreciate discreet elegance and classical design. Its polished steel case is paired with a dial that exudes understated sophistication a guilloché sunray pattern radiating from the centre, seamlessly merging into the chemin de fer minute track. Surrounding it, vertically brushed surfaces host crisp Arabic numerals, a hallmark of the Reverso’s balanced aesthetic.

Available on a supple five-row steel bracelet or a deep blue alligator strap, the ‘Origin’ captures the spirit of timeless femininity. Its monoface construction leaves the reverse side in polished metal — a blank canvas awaiting personalisation through engraving or lacquer, offering more than 1,880 possibilities for customisation. Like the earliest Reversos, this simple yet thoughtful design invites each owner to make the watch uniquely theirs, turning timekeeping into a deeply personal expression.

The Reverso Classic Monoface Small Seconds: A Modern Homage to Art Deco Perfection

In parallel, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduces a new interpretation of the Reverso Classic Monoface Small Seconds one that bridges vintage inspiration with modern craftsmanship. Fitted with the hand-wound Calibre 822, comprising 108 components and offering a 42-hour power reserve, this timepiece stays true to mechanical tradition while exuding contemporary sophistication.

Its 40.1 x 24.4 mm polished steel case composed of 50 parts reflects proportions reminiscent of the 1931 original, slim at just 7.56 mm, ensuring comfort and elegance on both men’s and women’s wrists. The highlight of this edition is its newly developed guilloché dial, distinguished by a “coin stack” motif at the centre of both the main dial and the small seconds subdial. This texture subtly contrasts with vertically brushed surfaces and bold Arabic numerals, resulting in a harmonious play of light and depth.

Complementing the design is an interchangeable black calfskin strap crafted by Casa Fagliano, the celebrated Argentinian polo bootmaker, a fitting nod to the Reverso’s sporting origins. Like its feminine counterpart, the Monoface Small Seconds also features a blank steel reverse side, ideal for engraving or lacquering, offering a quiet invitation to add a personal story to this iconic design.

A Continuing Story of Style and Substance

Together, these two new Reverso models reaffirm Jaeger-LeCoultre’s mastery in merging heritage with innovation. Whether expressed through the refined femininity of the ‘Origin’ or the poised modernity of the Small Seconds, each remains deeply rooted in the Reverso’s central philosophy adaptability without compromise.
