Stargazing With MING: The 37.05 Lunatic Lands
MING closes the chapter on its celebrated Moonphase series with a striking final edition: the 37.05 Lunatic. This third and last interpretation takes the complication into unexpected, futuristic territory while remaining unmistakably true to the brand’s design ethos.

The moonphase has long been associated with classical, dress-oriented watchmaking. MING first embraced that tradition in 2021, before offering a playful, almost whimsical take in 2023 with the “wandering stars” feature. The Lunatic, however, reimagines the complication entirely, drawing inspiration from space travel. Both the moonphase and date are now luminous, while the design borrows elements from the brand’s Minimalist line. It is, quite literally, a watch conceived for a journey beyond Earth something one could imagine wearing on NASA’s Artemis mission.

At the heart of the design is a sapphire dial with a special metallisation that creates a partially transparent effect, revealing glimpses of the movement beneath, including the hidden sections of the moon and date discs. For the first time, the moonphase display takes its place at the upper half of the dial. The hour markers, carried over from the Minimalist, are generously filled with MING’s signature Polar White luminous material. As with many of the brand’s creations, the dial shifts character dramatically depending on the light, moving from an inky black to a mirrored silver in what MING calls its signature “inversion.”

The Lunatic is housed in the familiar 37-series stainless-steel case, sized at an ergonomic 38mm by 11.9mm with a 20mm lug spacing, ensuring compatibility with the brand’s extensive strap options. The standard pairing is a sleek, space-appropriate white FKM rubber strap, chosen as much for comfort as for its futuristic aesthetic.
Powering the watch is the Sellita for MING SW288.M1, a movement customised with skeletonised bridges, matte-blasted surfaces, and contrasting finishes that reflect the brand’s technical artistry. Production, however, will be as limited as the inspiration behind it. Just 100 examples of the 37.05 Lunatic will be made, marking not only the debut of this space-inspired creation but also the definitive conclusion to the 37-series Moonphase line.
