Is there anything in watchmaking that hasn't been tried? Every day, the R&D department at Hublot asks itself this question. When you've invented the most durable materials, formed the most bizarre of alliances, and devised amazing complexity, the answer is frequently as simple as... in the shape. Hublot presently possesses three masterworks: a round watch, a barrel-shaped watch, and the MPs, or 'Master Pieces' that defy all conventions. And now it’s unveiled a square watch, The Square Bang Unico by Hublot!

Hublot introduces its own take on the square watch, a whole new geometry for the brand at Watches And Wonders 2022. This Square Bang Unico, inspired by the Maison's renowned Big Bang, adds a new pillar, 'The Shaped Collection,' to sit beside the Spirit of Big Bang.

Hublot was enchanted by its geometry because of the challenges it poses. First, there's the motion. Because the wheel is the most basic component of every calibre, it necessitates a round movement. A highly unique style is required to tastefully place a circular movement in a square casing. This is why most watchmakers conceal their movements, either to give the appearance of employing a shaped movement or because they lack a uniform aesthetic approach.

Hublot opted to go in a completely different direction: the watchmaker hides nothing of its own, in-house Unico movement, which has been the beating heart of most of its creations for over ten years and is the pride of the Nyon watchmakers. The chronograph has a column wheel visible at 6 o'clock, and its bicompax display does not have a dial, revealing the chronograph's secret inner workings.

The second obstacle was the case's modular design, which followed Hublot's DNA and had a central housing with an upper and lower plate to allow for a variety of combinations and transformations.

But this time, it's square, making it considerably more difficult to make water-resistant - Hublot rises to the occasion with a 100-meter water resistance guarantee. The case size is also vital in ensuring that this model is completely ergonomic, delivering wrist comfort equivalent to that of the 42 mm Big Bang. Its ties to the brand's emblem can be viewed in a variety of ways.

The dial's sandwich design, for starters, provides several levels of depth and a highly architectural feel. The Square Bang Unico's dial, like the Big Bang's, makes significant use of sapphire to provide a clear view of the Unico movement, and it also reuses the Big Bang's dial.

In addition to the Big Bang's well-liked One Click system and textured rubber, two screws are attached in the middle of the strap as an attachment. Finally, the Square Bang is made of the same materials as its predecessor, including titanium, ceramic, and King Gold, as well as the well-known "All Black" finish.

Finally, a new strap with 'chocolate squares' emphasises the Square Bang's uniqueness even more. You may alter the look of your watch in one click with an astonishing choice of Rubber, Alligator, and eventually soft-touch leather straps thanks to its interchangeable (One Click) technology. There are now five 42 mm variants available. These original designs beat to the rhythm of the HUB1280 Unico Manufacture movement, a 354-component automatic chronograph, set at 4 Hz (28,800 vib/h).

The finishing is uncompromising and has a very modern vibe, as is typical of Hublot.
