There's more to the Met Gala than just tuxedos, couture, and funky costumes that go viral on the internet. In the watch industry, this is also a major day of the year. When it comes to collecting, any serious watch aficionado has that one, must-have timepiece that sits in a safe until that one, special occasion. To the average person, that might be their wedding day, but to the world's celebrities, it's the Met Gala.
The wild outfits from last year have returned, albeit in a more muted form this year. Maybe it's because Karl Lagerfeld, the man behind Chanel and his own label, was honored at this year's Met Gala. Lagerfeld passed away in 2019. Many of the guests are wearing garments either directly from his collections or influenced by his style. The Met Gala has evolved into a veritable watch-spotting extravaganza.

1. Roger Federer Spotted Wearing The Rolex Perpetual 1908
The legendary Swiss tennis player Roger Federer has had a long and fruitful partnership with Rolex. His continued brand loyalty at the Met Gala is understandable. Recently unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2023, Federer was spotted wearing Rolex's newest reference, the Rolex Perpetual 1908. Rolex Perpetual 1908 in white gold with fluted bezel and small seconds at 6 o'clock, as worn by Roger Federer.
2. James McAvoy Spotted Wearing The Jaeger-LeCoultre Pink Gold Reverso Tribute Chronograph
Actor James McAvoy was seen wearing the latest Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Chronograph in pink gold, continuing the current trend of newly released watches. One side of this stunning timepiece is more or less standard fare, but when you flip it over, you'll see a skeletonized dial and chronograph features.
3. Eileen Gu Wore Spotted Wearing An IWC Portofino Day And Night
The evening at the Met Gala was a huge success for IWC. The IWC Portofino Day & Night 34 IW659802 was spotted on Olympic skier Eileen Gu. This timepiece has a diamond-encrusted bezel in addition to a day/night complication.
4. Simu Liu Spotted Wearing A Vacheron Constantin Overseas
The Vacheron Constantin Overseas is as timeless as it gets. Sports watches made of stainless steel immediately come to mind. Some brands that come to mind are Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Vacheron Constantin Overseas. Even though it's the newest of the bunch, the Overseas watch is a favorite among collectors. The stainless steel model with the black dial was even seen on the wrist of Marvel MCU star Simu Liu at the Met Gala. Liu gave it a little extra flair by switching out the standard stainless steel bracelet for a leather strap.
5. Rami Malek Spotted Wearing A Cartier Tank Must
Rami Malek, who played Freddie Mercury in the film Bohemian Rhapsody and won an Oscar for his performance, is also a Cartier ambassador. Malek was seen wearing a traditional Cartier Tank Must with a black dial at the 2023 Met Gala. The Must miniature model has a gold case and a quartz movement.
6. Bella Ramsey Spotted Wearing The Hublot Big Bang Steel White Diamonds
At the Met Gala, Bella Ramsey wore a HUBLOT watch, which she proudly displayed on the red carpet. With its white dial, silver-tone hands, and index hour markers, this striking model is a modern take on traditional elegance.
But the 126 sparkling diamonds embedded in the stainless steel bezel are the real show stoppers. This timepiece features a white structured rubber strap and a stainless steel case that measures 38 millimeters in diameter. It is powered by a HUB2900 quartz movement and can withstand water pressure of up to 10 bars.
