Breguet

Breguet’s rich, four-century history of invention and innovation is an integral part of the entire chronology of the watchmaking industry. The company is named after its creator, Abraham-Louis Breguet, who was born on January 10, 1747, in Neuchatel, Switzerland.

Abraham-Louis Breguet received a number of honors during his lifetime, including the official title of chronometer maker to the French Royal Navy, bestowed upon him by Louis XVIII. Since marine chronometry implied a level of scientific expertise, this was undoubtedly the highest honor a horologist could achieve. His “perpétuelle” (self-winding) watches were extremely popular at the court of Versailles and throughout Europe. Despite the fact that he wasn’t the first to create a self-winding watch, most experts agree that his model was the first truly reliable and effective one.
